So, as part of research for a project on the site, I am going through different sports broadcasts and, boy howdy, I know this isn't new, but auto-translated/dubbed videos are horrifying to listen to.
It's a really weird one, because Erasmus gets a wicket off Sanjay on the second ball, but drops the catch on the dismount and that basically makes Trumpelmann unravel for the rest of over.
Yep! I am using the US innings for testing purposes specifically for that over, in terms of being able to have to prep the intake system for different random variables/scoring notations. Cricinfo has it 1w 1 1 4 6 7nb 6 0, Willow has it as Wd 1 1 4 6 N6 6 0, both have it at 26 runs for the over.
So, I thought about this and spent [redacted] hours figuring things out and I think this is the (basically) way forward.
Fun fact: tinkering with this made me realize that the plug-in I use is customizable down to individual data points.
Yβall the Omaha LOVB is holding a poll to pick a team name and one of the options is, I kid you not, Cornadoes. If you all donβt vote for Cornadoes we are no longer friends www.lovb.com/teams/lovb-n...
Wrong Tim Onion, I believe.
over-by-over breakdown of USA's scoring
This is what the raw data looks like (in this case, for the USA score in the same match). There are also other issues, like, tracking Lbs, NBs and Wds, but I just have them (and wickets, which work with the -1 to make that little tail) on a straight VLOOKUP conversion to a number right now.

Yeah, it would look something like this (I've added a non-white background for the sake of visibility for the "naked" over.) The color being associated with the ball in the over seemed like the best way to handle it tracking, though it obviously leaves the problem of visualizing the dot balls.
WIP, especially w/r/t the color situation, but finding π to be fun to do data viz with.
Although there's nothing going during the week (at least that we could find), curling will be on this weekend with the Women's World Curling Championships. So have no fear intrepid curling enthusiasts!

As always, if you *don't* see something, say something.

I believe that was an issue for an extended period of time (from the early 90s until the early 00s) where it became a way to criticize people for being βinauthenticβ but I think the ground has shifted so much under our feet that thereβs an understanding that, you know, you gotta eat.
I would to 2LI 2RR, but only as the name for a sequel to a movie about the train.
In my life, Iβve never heard someone refer to it as the LI2R.
First three Indian batsmen have had half centuries.
Not an expert but it seems bad for New Zealand that India is on pace for 240 runs and three guys hitting half centuries.
Listen, I just want both teams to have fun, but Abhishek not getting hot in the final would be preferable to the alternative.
We live in an age of wonder and beauty.

Oh no! Disaster! (That attempt for Nopp at tops was really wonky.)
Real ugly finishing from Humphries. Which has been his problem all season.
I prefer rugby so far, but all sports are good sports. (Darts and cricket are the best, though, to me.)
Oh, yeah. That match fucking ripped. My best friend/person I do my obscure sports newsletter loves it and has been pushing me towards it for months now. They have games on Fox Sports 2, so I catch the βmorningβ matches/it records it for me if I wake up at a normal time.
(I caught the second half this morning.)
