Okay, I’m gonna sound conspiratorial, but is it possible this ordering of events (Venezuela, Iran) is intentional? Drive up the price of oil to make the American majors both a ton of money and to make Venezuela worth investing in? Projections go up to 150 a barrel and Venezuela needs what, 90?

I didn’t know isn’t a defense here because you went to the places and did the things someone who do know would do, so all the same worries can’t be dispelled by that. Ignorance isn’t a defense.

I also worry because if that is the case, that isn’t the story he’s telling. He’s being dishonest about something that he doesn’t need to be dishonest about.

This has always been the indictment for me. I don’t like that he got the tattoo but I really don’t like that he knew a tattoo artist who would do it in the first place. I spent a lot of time in my youth around Sturgis, and the Nazi Bar argument applies to tattoo artists too.

It’s about vengeance for perceived sleights, nostalgia for past days and the attempted projection of strength and ruthlessness while being psychologically in a defensive crouch. Schadenfreude is a natural part of that combination.

I am trying to give you advice on how to make a better (read: more persuasive) argument.

I no longer care about the broader point because you and I were clearly not talking about the same thing, and we have something like 90% overlap on the actual position. You can continue to vent if you need.

I don’t disagree that there’s a conflation problem but when you talk to people and advocate for a thing, it isn’t on them to make sure they understand you.

What failed point? I didn’t disagree with the policy during Covid. I disagree with extending it into perpetuity. Which is what I said, and what you don’t seem to have an issue with. So again: clarify your argument, and again, what are you arguing with me about?

Were you around for Covid era masking policy? Because I just described it. If you’re asking for a different policy (like the one I just articulated) then a) You might want to clarify that because at least a few people are making that assumption, and b) what’s the issue?

Which is why I wear a mask if I have to go out when I am sick or think I am sick. That’s a reasonable ask.

It is not a reasonable ask to require every other person to constantly and consistently cover their face in public places rather than getting a properly fitted respirator.

This argument is so weird to me. There’s an expectation that the world will bend, and you will never have to bend in return.

If immunocompromised like that, you kind of need to own some kind of sealing or powered respirator just in case someone doesn’t comply anyway, as it’s not socially agreed.
