Set in an Australian high school, some moments were funny, familiar, and touching.
But it was very busy and frantic in other parts, with disturbing child abuse and mental health issues.
Moved at a frantic pace, but it needed to slow down and let the reader breathe.

The End is Always Near, by Dan Carlin
This book was a look at events which at the time would have felt world-ending.
It was very superficial, seemed poorly researched, and I was distracted throughout with the inane footnotes.
I'm sure Carlin's podcast is great, but his writing isn't for me.

Reminiscent of The Handmaid's Tale, or a Trump presidency, with a focus on restricting language to control women (the author is a linguist).
Dark and dystopia gives away to slightly silly action in the last 3rd. A shame, as it turned a great book into a OK book.

An IPA with New Zealand hops from Slipstream in Queensland.
I had this on tap last year on the Gold Coast and enjoyed it much more. It was good in a can, but lacked the resin kick I got last time.
