Sean Orr has filed legal action against Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim for saying to media without evidence that Orr was dealing drugs on Christmas Day
I’m not sure I’d call that “milking” it. Defamation litigation is not for the faint of heart unless you have a lot of money, and even then. Doing nothing in the face of blatant character assassination wasn’t much of an option.
He was going to have to carry that into the campaign no matter what. ABC trolls are still producing the same crap that they were before unabated.

This sort of thing is directly possible because of crypto. There is no viably honest reason for crypto, its only reason for existing is crime. Buying crypto should be considered profiting from crime and should be illegal.
The Integrity Commissioner does not have the authority to adequately sanction ABC in light of their supermajority. The VPD are too close to the situation. Their involvement would be tainted by an appearance of bias. This matter calls for an independent investigation by a special prosecutor.
Ken Sim’s so-called apology, which simply acknowledges that his statements were without factual foundation, does nothing to repair the damage to Sean Orr’s political reputation and continues to damage his future political career. Until that harm is addressed, this issue should not go away.
Ken Sim has admitted that there was no factual basis for these remarks. Clearly, the intention was to generate public opposition to supportive housing, but also to destroy Sean Orr’s political career.
Ken Sim met with the Chinese community with the intention of convincing them that supportive housing is drug-infested and that Sean Orr distributed drugs on Christmas Day.
Several journalists have been framing the issue as “can Ken Sim get re-elected, or will voters forget about his remarks by October?” That is the wrong question to ask if you’re concerned about the health of our electoral system.
What should not recede is the expectation that our political institutions will maintain appropriate guard rails to ensure the integrity of our electoral system.
100%. The only prophylactic to career trolls is to block them. Indeed, I “pre-block” them: when I come across an account that is a troll nest I block all of the followers and then block the account. A bit of a pain but it does make a difference.
