On the surface, I am all about early modern European History, Scandinavian and Baltic History, or History of War, but deep down, I just want to read books and eat chocolate!

Agreed - I am happy to know that we're basically all doing this, even when not visible on social media (there is a reality beside the internet - such a surprise for this early modernist ;) )
Actually, a question for your research area: does classroom teaching count as public debate?

I think, mostly early modernists are jealous that medievalists have these bibliographies.
As far as I am aware, it's more separated for early modernists, according to geography and language. There is the Bibliography of British and Irish History, there are bibliographies for German or HRE history

Isn't it part of our teaching to provide a variety of view points and to always keep everyone talking and thinking?! The only way to do this is to talk not just about the topics on the syllabus, but also about everything else of concern

Feel free to add Umlaute to the sheep-noises 😅 (it's Mäh in German) - although, if I remember correctly, the setting of the novel is actually in Ireland.

The book (which I read in its original German about 20 years ago) was fantastic - I think, it's been recently translated into English, and I would highly recommend it! The author is Leonie Swann, the book was called Glenkill in German (not sure about its English title)

This gold medal was made to celebrate the Scottish coronation of King Charles II, which occurred at Scone Palace on this day in 1651. It was the last coronation to ever take place in Scotland. This gold specimen from the Hunterian is exceedingly rare, most were cast in silver.

A fantastic conference and discussions among medievalists has now seen the light of publication! (I sneaked in as an early modernist) It's all about the debate on the nation in medieval Europe - and here the whole of Europe incl. many (Eastern or Northern) polities often more sidelined in research.
