Some interesting update: we recently decided to submit this work to #JOSS. But it was rejected because the #GitHub history is less than 6 months. The fact is we wouldn't be able to finish this in 6 months without the help for AI.
CSDMS Student Modeler Award Competition is now open! Deadline to send your materials is 1/26/26. More info and how to apply here: csdms.colorado.edu/wiki/Student...
Next generation Earth system models such as #E3SM should be able to represent large #river #Delta. #AGU25
In this year's #AGU, I will present the first global-scale unified #MPAS mesh framework for kilometer-scale two-way coupled land-river-ocean simulations.

We recently released the beta version of URaster on GitHub and PyPI:
github.com/changliao102...
and pypi.org/project/uras...
This package enables us to set up unstructured mesh-based hydrologic and land surface models.

E3SM all hands meeting takeaways:
Models are moving towards km-scale, even with AI/ML.
Raspberry picking
Working with a data file like this (in Excel) is why data cleaning is often underappreciated.
Data science might be one of the most overrated science because literally no science can get away without data.
Finally get it working again. Hopefully it would be useful for ongoing C++ project development.
It still does not work well with @GitHub Copilot.
"The unified Model for Prediction Across Scales (MPAS) grid to cover all model components on the Earth’s surface.". We finally made the unstructured mesh framework into #E3SM v4 goal. #ESM #mesh #grid #RRM

The preprint for our paper is now up at arXiv: arxiv.org/abs/2505.06484
Hopefully it'll help people who are forced to leave. Still good advice for researchers, in general.

This seems to be a good approach to track manuscript review status. JOSS also has a GitHub based review process.
How about assigning elevation to hexagon vertices instead of center?

This semester I gave a couple of lectures to the graduate students in University of Houston on water science. I was astonished to find out that several students are very interested in #DGGS #DGGRID for hydrologic research. The Q&A session was filled with in-depth discussions.
It literally took us five years to acknowledge that we need a better mesh for #landsurfacemodel. Regional refinement mesh for #LSM can be both efficient and effective for many scientific discoveries and applications. #ESS #PIMeeting #DOE
