Underrated art direction, really.

An adult and juvenile Giraffatitan, shown with slim but muscular builds and deep, narrow necks. The adult sports a huge row of iguana-like spines projecting like a mane down its neck.

A grey and yellow Dilophosaurus with a chunky, robust body with short arms and a bulldog-like neck.

It’s 2 AM, my laptop is nonfunctional, and thus I am reduced to sharing the dinosaur art available to me on my phone. Here are four random pieces of dinosaur imagery with no connection to each other than my love of them.

A quilled Velociraptor with tightly folded arms stands atop a pile of loose stones, backed by an intensive purple and orange sunset.

A leathery-winged, white-furred Dimorphodon with red legs soars above rough waves. In the distance, jutting stones pierce a sulphurous sky.

A red-headed Albertosaurus moves alongside a herd of Lambeosaurus, splashing through a shallow woodland stream. The sky is a smoky blue with wisps of clouds strewn about. The massive form of a colossal asteroid hovers menacingly above it all.

An emaciated Triceratops with ragged skin sits in a low squat, shown in stark white against an almost entirely black composition. A cutaway view shows a tangle of roots piercing deep into the ground, a visual representation of the sickness penetrating the dinosaurs body.

I don’t think I love anything as much as the surreal, alien palaeoart of the 70s into the early 90s. These compositions are all naturalistic, but they’re strange and hypernatural in a way that transcends realism. It’s a bizarre but profoundly moving approach to reconstructing the past.

Sometimes I miss this period of paleoart design.

Skull of Archaeotherium mortoni

I used this as my reference, turns out it was actually a skull of Archaeotherium mortoni. Still pretty cool to draw a different entelodontid for a change.

My restoration of what an entelodon might have looked like, added extra flesh similar to hippos for a bit.

Tried doing a proper entelodon skull study at work.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Monarch and that new kaiju, was busy, I haven't watched that yet, but anyway yw ♥️.

I was going to say *parts when discussing Destoroyah's chest but damn autocorrect.

I was also considering whether or not to add Jiger & the heisei Gyaos from the Gamera movies, but that would be cheating and besides, this post was more about female kaijus in the Godzilla franchise.

I really hope there are more female kaijus & human characters in the Godzilla franchise and other kaiju media.
