Rachel Reeves, Natalie Fleet, Pat McFadden. Natalie Fleet holds a sign that says “ just voted to lift 450,000 children out of poverty.”
Tonight I got to vote to lift kids out of poverty; a poverty that scars & has a lifelong impact.
It also means women will no longer have to complete the “form of shame” to prove their birth was caused by rape.
I have beer been prouder to be a Labour MP 🌹

Angry men shouting us down in Commons as we fight to get ...
Debate over reforms to jury trials has become toxic. Meanwhile, women are dropping charges because of the long wait for court as backlog grows
Court reforms:
Loudest against are men that haven’t spent time with victims, haven’t lived in fear, haven’t been raped themselves.
They’re part of establishment that defend status quo & dismiss us.
I bet they’d feel differently if 1/4 of them had been raped.

Labour MP who was groomed asks colleagues to back judge-only trials
Exclusive: Natalie Fleet says power balance is with criminals not victims as delays make ‘hell of being raped’ worse
Judge only trials:
✅Still deliver justice for accused,
✅Protect jury trails for cases that need them
✅Rebalance power between victims & criminals
We cannot continue with a system where hell of being raped is made worse by hell of the court system.

For too long grooming victims have been ignored.
We have a gov that says:
-we believe you
- we will find perpetrators
- they will face justice.
I have never been as proud to be part of this Labour government.

Tories leave local woman 4yrs 5mths from rape to conviction.
Labour Home Secretary meets victim, treats violence against women & girls as national emergency, helps her get justice.
Then Kemi Badenock dares to send email out saying “We Won.”
She should apologise.

As a 15yo mum, I was told what happened was my fault.
Kemi Badenock had power, yet did not meet one victim, or speak about grooming once.
I do not know how she dares try & score points now.
Thank god we have a gov that is taking violence against women & girls seriously.

4yrs 5mths from rape to trial.
Multiple suicide attempts.
How will the PM make sure these formidable women get justice & there will be enough space in our prisons for the rapists???
Brave Bolsover women, keep bossing it.
I’ll proudly be your voice.

I’ve just finished responding to the first batch of emails on this.
So many stories of bravery and courage from the phenomenal women I am proud to represent.
Stories we all wish they didn’t have.
If you’re one of the 10,554, please do keep getting in touch. ❤️

Feels very strange being in Westminister with colleagues instead of South Normanton speaking to residents this morning!
Today, I’m proud to play my part as our Labour Government takes decisive action in the national interest to save British steel.

MP, rape victim, teenage mum . . . and first Mother’s Day as a grandparent
Natalie Fleet, unwillingly pregnant at 15, says the state support that she had inspired her to stand for parliament
Speaking out is scary, but I feel a huge responsibility to use the platform I’ve been given.
To mark my first Mother's Day as a Nana, I spoke to the Observer about my story & why I will continue to tell it. 💕

🚨Rape is part of our story as women
🤫 It’s just a part we don’t tell.
The data tells us:
➡️As 690th woman MP ever
➡️172 MPs will have been raped
➡️86 more than once
➡️28 will have reported
➡️1 prosecution, max
Let’s use #InternationalWomensDay to change that story💪

Vote cast on BBC iPlayer for Denise to choose Ravi over (handsome but not right this time) Jack.
Vote cast on BBc iPlayer for Sonia’s baby to be called Toni rather than Julia.
Totally uncontroversial, right?

Natalie Fleet holding her newborn granddaughter
A very special constituent gave birth to a baby girl this week & made me an incredibly proud Nana.
Thanks to the team at Kings Mill who looked after my daughter & granddaughter so well.
Turns out all they tell you about the privilege of becoming a grandparent is true.

So many reasons why grooming victims like me often don’t speak out.
One of them, is fear perpetrator will demand access to child conceived by rape.
I am thrilled Home Sec will meet with me & other victims to discuss law change.
We finally have gov that treats VAWG as national emergency it is.

I look back at this pic & remember the advice he gave me…I was then in a rush to ask him if he did his own social media as it was so funny.
What a man. What a legacy.
Thank you John.
May you rest in peace.
