Like maybe five? Ten years ago? I really enjoyed hosting, like cooking elaborate dinners, mixing cocktails, the whole shebang, but it was partly me just pushing myself to never, ever slow down, which was super unhealthy. I kind of miss it too, that bringing of people together, but I can't, either

I used to do a lot of this, like groups as large as twenty, and now, even the thought of hosting one (1) friend makes me want to faint from the anticipated exhaustion

Thank you, and you are exactly right; it's just been ricocheting back and forth all day. I'm quite settled about my grandma, but it will be a while before I forgive the universe for my cousin. Onwards and upwards, though--year year got fish!

So everything about today was terrible, save for the part where my dad, having refused to buy new dress shoes for his mother's funeral, was forced to wrap his ancient boots up with miles of electrical tape after they both blew open at the sole. He was, of course, the best dressed person there
