President Zelenskyy: Lifting sanctions will strengthen Russia’s position.
"Russia spends the money it earns from energy exports on weapons, which are then used to attack us.
…So lifting sanctions only to end up facing even more drones later, in my view, is not the right decision."

ICE agents reveal daily arrest quotas and surveillance app in rare court testimony
Under oath, officers said they were told to make eight arrests a day and given special tech to help choose ‘targets’
When a federal judge (finally) put ICE officers under oath, they admitted that they are given daily detention quotas and rely heavily on a Palantir-supplied AI tool to select targets, without warrants and without enough evidence to obtain one. They simply go into neighborhoods and round people up.

An image of a Dark Angels legion Space Marine in black power armour.
A black and white photograph of a fallen tree in Burnham, cracked and crumbling on the ground.
Due to popular demand, here's every Space Marine legion from Warhammer 40,000 as a document in our collection.
I: Dark Angels
Obviously, they're this photograph of a tree in Burnham. Why this photograph?
The tree has Fallen.

drawing a black rectangle over the text does not actually meaningfully redact that text, i guess they do not teach this in law school. i wasn't even testing the fences here, i just accidentally clicked on a black rectangle and it opened my computer's email app!

Apropos of SecDef's remarks this morning:
Denial of quarter—even the declaration of no quarter—is a war crime.
And recognized as such by the US Government.

Jesus christ. Facebook sees internet regulation coming -- rather than stop it, they create organizations that will hold data for all of these companies to offload responsibility onto them, then lobby their already-bought politicians to pass policy that gives their new business a use.

This verdict in particular is an egregious threat to the First Amendment. He was convicted of "corruptly concealing a document or record" for transporting a box of anarchist zines. In other words, transporting printed essays that featured political speech.

My husband and | just received 13 traffic violations in the mail 2 of them were from STOP SIGNS.
IS THIS A NORMAL OCCURRENCE IN DC?!??
Is there a lot of success in getting these things cancelled?! We just moved here and have been going with the flow of traffic! This is INSANE
$1500 worth of infractio
i can't stand nextdoor but i think it's fascinating that out of 137 commenters about 120 are like "yeah it sucks to drive in dc" and the handful remaining are patiently explaining that the one weird trick to not getting tickets is to stop driving like an asshole

i only mention this because of a few replies i see written as if the problem is the trump admin being too lazy or incompetent to bother coming up with a good plan: there is no possible good plan. "don't provoke iran into closing the strait" is the plan, if you're past that you're fucked

I tried to explain to my cousins who are addicted to parlays why the math ensures that they cannot win over time even if they are the best parlay players in the entire world. They acknowledged I was correct and then put $100 on a random array of football games anyway. This is also how drugs work.

Comic. [Person with shoulder-length hair talking to a second person. She is gesturing at a dinosaur skeleton with a machine mounted on its back.] PERSON 1: Although Bazookasaurus’s distinctive structure was long assumed to be a weapon, vascularization studies show that it was very fragile and could only have been used for display.

I know I’ve got some Labour local gov’t types following me, so I want to say this clearly so that you can share it internally as appropriate: I will never again vote Labour while these policies, or Wes Streeting, are in place. I will not vote Labour at any level because of this.

do yourself a favor folks, if you're 26 or younger, make a plan to dodge the draft. it's not making the problem about you -- the child you don't go overseas to kill will thank you for it in fact. and if it doesn't come to pass, better to have a plan and not need it than need it and not have it
