Has there ever been a positive use of the clause? The only reason for it to exist is to bypass charter protections. Which pretty much always seems suspect at best.
Yeah, I'm sorry, but you do not keep the government shut for more than a month and then NOT get a deal on the main item you have been messaging on without completely shifting the blame dynamic.

Exactly. It's not about intelligence. They were probably smart men. But they were immoral slaveholders who were building a system to protect their own power. Many of them actively tried to block any amendments as an affront to their power and they had to be forced into it.
Sort of. Monied interests are the biggest predictors of outcomes in the US elections I believe. Both parties hold strongly to ridiculously unpopular views.
Left leaning causes are pointless if they give up on their principles too. I hope we can agree with that even if we argue where the line is.
Popularity shouldn't be the only metric of your moral stances.
