Hoppers is a must-see, and the type of media we need in the world right now. In addition to being absolutely hilarious, it portrayed human-wildlife conflict and environmental conflict in general in a way that was both thorny and hopeful. Loved seeing wetland ecology in a fun film.

Congratulations! What a fun movie. Laughed a ton, and absolutely loved seeing animated beavers 𦫠and wetland ecology on the big screen. The people sitting behind me clapped when the science team came up in the credits ππ
(For those who haven't seen it yet, stay through the credits! Worth it. π)

Congratulations!!! Saw it on opening night, and it was so much fun. You must have some fans in Vermont because the people behind me started clapping when the science advisors came up in the credits. Btw...for those who haven't seen it, make sure to stay all the way through the credits. π¦«

Pictures of two faucet snails from different angles to show identification features on a ruler to show scale with the following text:
Invasive Species Spotlight:
Faucet Snail / Mud Bithynia
(Bithynia tentaculata)
Key Identification Features:
Small shell approximately 12-15 mm at full size with a rounded spire of 5-6 whorls and the shell opening (aperture) less than half the total height of the shell
Shell color can vary from shiny light brown to black
βRight-handedβ (dextral) shell opening with covering called an operculum that is whitish and calcified with a pattern of concentric rings
Species spotlight for National Invasive Species Awareness Week. Invasive faucet snails are a growing concern in the Champlain Basin and Great Lakes region and can outcompete native snails, clog drain and intake pipes, and spread parasites to birds.

Rusty crayfish (Faxonius rusticus) with bright red spot on carapace.
Favorite photos of rusty crayfish (Faxonius rusticus) for National Invasive Species Awareness Week. While extremely disruptive and damaging to ecosystems when introduced, they are also fascinating, and I never cease to be amazed by the color variation. ππ§ͺ

Black text on a blue background which reads: Invasive Species Spotlight: Banded Mystery Snail (Callinina georgiana) above a photo of a large banded mystery snail and six tiny juvenile snails on a ruler for scale. Below it reads: Key Identification Features: 1) Spiral shell with a rounded shape and 3-5 whorls, 2) "Right-handed" (dextral) shell opening with covering called an operculum, 3) You may notice lots of tiny snails nearby or inside the shells of dead adult snails because these snails give birth to live offspring instead of laying eggs.
Invasive Species Spotlight!
When introduced to a new place, Banded Mystery Snails (Callinina georgiana) can cause damage by:
βoutcompeting native snails
βeating fish eggs
βspreading parasites to birds
βovergrazing vegetation

Even though the GLANSIS database is for the Great Lakes Basin, it has been a useful reference for my work further east in the Lake Champlain Basin in thinking about aquatic invasive species distribution and risk factors.

Middlebury scientists are among Trump's targets - Addison Independent
Executive orders by President Trump have cast a shadow over millions of dollars in federal research money that comes to Middlebury College.
The "Shrinking Opportunities" section of this article describes what was my first hint at the later slew of executive orders. Let's work together to continue to maintain integrity in science, STEM education, and science communication.

Black and white game camera photo of a coyote in profile at night in the snow.
Wouldn't have thought my first post as a freshwater ecologist would be about a land mammal, but this coyote neighbor stopped by, and I thought it might brighten your day. A beaver-created wetland made this possible. π¦«πΎ
