Same meme format as before, but it now shows the spearmint plant asking evolution to give it high menthol content to help it deter predators, and the cavemen excitedly yell "mouth cool" and instead of being deterred we ultimately got spearmint gum.
Same thing happened to the plants that produced menthol, probably also a deterrent to keep mammals from eating them, as menthol binds to our TRPM8 receptor that primarily senses cold (lack of heat). That's why we like cooling mint flavors so much!
