The cover for Uncanny Magazine Issue 64, “Barbershops of the Floating City" by Grace P. Fong: A woman stands facing the viewer, her qipao is a light blue color with flower designs in a darker shade of blue. Her long, black hair trails elegantly behind her while she holds a pair of scissors close to her chest. Behind there is a shadow that looks in the opposite direction, as if she is looking down at the city depicted below. At the top is a sun that crowns the two figures and bathes the entire picture in light. The quote reads: "There have been portals to the Fae realm for at least as long as humans have had fairy tales, but the first one deliberately engineered by humans was opened in an abandoned amusement park thirty-five miles northeast of Antiphony."

There's a pine tree in my neighbor's back yard & every year a pair of ravens nest in it. I love watching them fly back & forth with sticks as they build a new nest each spring. Idk why they don't reused their old nests, but they never do.

Another flash piece edited and sent out today. Subbed to a "Bucket List" venue. Fingers Crossed!

Three stories currently out on submission at five venues. I've got three more stories to clean up and then I'll be adding them to the list. It sure feels good to be back at it again.

Cover of the book, Elisha Barber the Dark Apostle. Image is of a man in a linen shirt and leather apron standing behind a table upon which is laid out an assortment of medieval surgical tools.

Just finished reading ELISHA BARBER THE DARK APOSTLE (Book 1) by E.C. Ambrose. Oh my gosh, it was so gooooood! I couldn't put it down, and now I'm scrambling to get ahold of book 2.

If you haven't read this book yet, you are seriously missing out. Just fantastic. #greatbooks #bookrecs #mustread

There are two people in my family who eat a LOT of yogurt each week and have a taste for the very best (most expensive) stuff. So, I’m trying my hand at making a gallon sized batch of it from scratch. Will post an update on how it goes.

Someone else suggested this organization, too. I'll go with it! Thank you.

My child would like to get a pride flag to put on their bedroom wall. Anyone know where I could purchase one and know that my money will be supporting a worthwhile organization?

I'm so sorry to hear that you've been struggling with health issues as much as you have been. Taking care of yourself isn't letting anyone down. You're modeling good self-care for the rest of us. Wishing you a speedy journey back to feeling better.

2025 Bram Stoker Awards Final Ballot The Horror Writers Association (HWA) has announced the final ballot for the 2025 Bram Stoker Awards. Superior Achievement in a Novel Witchcraft for Wayward Girls, Grady Hendrix (Berkley) King Sorro…

I got the call from @laneheymont.bsky.social this morning, but this is the first time I've seen it in print: GIRL IN THE CREEK is a Stoker finalist for Best Novel!

I have to look at it again, because it's almost impossible to believe my eyes.

Well, that’s a wrap on the Codex Writers Weekend Warrior flash fiction challenge. Six weeks (including the warmup week), & I’ve got six new pieces of flash fiction. One is hot garbage, but the other five have solid story bones. I’m pleased.

There is too much snow here. I'm running out of places to put it when shoveling. I can't throw snow that high! It's starting to feel like 2015 around here.

Last night, had my 2nd meetup for the new writing group I'm in. I'm so lucky to be in the same room w/ such skilled authors, reading their work & getting their thoughts on my work, but I also feel like the dumbest kid in the room when I'm w/ them all.

Just discovered that @nightmare-magazine.com is still open to submissions until tomorrow night! Gasped and then, with trembling fingers, submitted a piece of flash, adding to their pile of 2400 submissions this month. Nothing ventured and all that.

Week 1 of the Codex Writers Weekend Warrior flash fiction challenge has begun. I have a story idea. I must approach it slowly and cautiously, so as not to spook it.

Pretty much exactly the same as you. I do feel less guilty about DNF-ing now than when I was in my 20s. When I DNF, though, I do make a point of analyzing what wasn't working for me about the book. But, yeah. I've DNF'ed some otherwise very popular books (The Martian, for example).

#WeekendWarrior #Flashfiction prompts dropped on Friday. No ideas at all on Saturday. Fleeting images & isolated words emerged Sunday morning. Just finished a 743 word story-shaped thing. Whether it's any good or not? Well, that wasn't really the point.

Only 37 more pickups on this audiobook. I should be able to knock them all out tomorrow and then I move onto the audio processing phase.

Decided to roll up my sleeves and dive back into the Weekend Warrior Challenge this year. Took a two year hiatus, but this year I'm feeling it, and I'm excited.

Wow. Nothing like Christmas to bring out “good will toward men” in the grocery store… 🙄

Just watched someone start screaming at someone else because their cart was blocking the graham crackers. Like, actual screaming.
