Happy to be at MITβs Wargaiming Lab with Erik-Lin Greenberg and the great group of scholars and practitioners he has brought together.
Can we agree that the show that will be staged next week in Russia should not be referred to as an βelection?β
Can I resubmit the original long version of an already published piece? π€
My co-chairs Cladia Major (SWP), Tobias Bunde (MSC & Hertie School) and I look forward to working with some of the smartest minds in Europe to assess the state of nuclear deterrence in Europe. Initial findings in 12 months!
In cooperation with the Munich Security Conference and the Hertie School Berlinβs Center for International Security, the University St. Gallenβs Instute of Political Science launched the βEuropean Nuclear Study Groupβ this weekend at the Munich Security Conference.
@nroettgen.bsky.social gave an excellent assessment of the challenges in Ukraine at the start of the annual Ewald von Kleist Memorial Dinner I am happy to host every year at the Munich Security Conferenc.
Happy to again have chaired the Transatlantic Forum at MSC where we had a good discussion among EU President von der Leyen, NATO SecGen Jens Stoltenberg and members of the US and German delegations.
The University of St. Gallen is pleased to host the Swiss Political Science Associationβs annual convention! 8-9 Feb. (Today and tomorrow!) have a look! www.svpw-assp.ch/spsa-annual-...
How likely is nuclear escalation in Ukraine? Read my review of Janice Gross Steinβs recent article on the question. issforum.org/ISSF/PDF/JAR...
Just read the sad news of Prof. Helga Haftendornβs death shortly after her 90th birthday. A former President of the ISA, she was a towering figure in German IR, a long-time confidant and supporter of my career. A great transatlanticist, she trained generations of academics and policy-makers. RIP!
Today in Munich. #bringthemback
My experience tracks with @erikvoeten.bsky.social . Students have been very respectful but realize they lack perspective and a vocabulary to discuss the nuances, dilemmas and paradoxes exposed by the crisis. It is our responsibility to work through these with them.
In my chapter I explore the links between praxis and behavioral IR.

Leider.
As in recent π©πͺ state elections, the green parties were the big losers in this weekendβs π¨πelections, not because people deny the immediacy of the climate crisis but because in both, the greens are increasingly seen as eliitist and paternalistic purveyors of privation. Time to recalibrate.
In the states where I attended a great workshop at Brown University with rising stars in IR as well as old friends. Thanks to Reid Pauly for inviting me!
New to π! Looking forward to seeing what everyone has to say!
