Favourite pub in Oldham. Always happy to see them thriving.
Might need to call in after I get back from my holidays and have a lovely pint

John Prescott was a true friend of local government and inspired so many.
We thank him for all he did.
Goodbye and rest in peace. ๐น๐น๐น
John Prescottโs coffin has arrived at Hull Minster for his funeral. Appropriately, the hearse was a Jag, as is the familyโs car.
A knowing wink you suspect. Two Jags to the end.
Itโs not an โElon Musk saluteโ itโs a bloody Nazi salute and theyโve gone fully mask off now havenโt they
unrelated - BlueSky not allowing video files over 50mb has really made it hard to do HQ videos on here
Using rail lines and other existing infrastructure to unlock brownfield housing sites and develop more vital infrastructure (like doctors, shops etc) is a brilliant idea and we need to do more and more
Glad to see the government trying to address the issues, and we need to tackle the root causes - investment in our towns, making sure that people can afford to live and that they don't have to make the decision between heating and eating on a daily basis.
This is a really difficult article to read from @charlotteliviahall.bsky.social, mainly because I know so many people in the same boat, and no matter what we try to do locally, things don't necessarily feel better.

Sexual exploitation affects all communities & doesnโt discriminate by gender. From my 14 years as a Crown Prosecutor, Iโve seen this firsthand. I asked the Home Secretary to ensure any review also examines the abuse of boys & young men. Every victim deserves justice.
Delighted to see HAF is continuing. Itโs a lifeline for so many families in my own ward, and Iโve seen firsthand the difference it makes to kids, who otherwise would be stuck at home or out on the streets potentially being led astray.
The electoral commission needs to be given proper powers to investigate lies and malicious acts from candidates. The police often arenโt equipped to deal with this, leading to civil action being the only recourseโฆ if you can afford it
Never known anything like the last two elections in the West Midlands for fakery and aggression. I hope this woman got a pretty penny for what she went through to start a new chapter with her baby. Her personal story will be taken and learned from in how we protect individuals and our democracy.
The dog has once again summed up my mood for the day
Thereโs being bold and thereโs being plain bonkers. No-one who thinks for 5 minutes can believe means testing the state pension is a good idea - but that is what Kemi Badenoch says sheโs up for
We need to do more to understand why this particular pattern of abuse is more prevalent among some groups of men. Thatโs not racism โ itโs common sense.
It's not religion or race that defines these crimes, itโs the crimes that define these men.
We welcome this announcement and indeed any action that the government takes to establish genuinely survivor-led inquiries into historical sexual abuse.
Survivors must be at the heart of any inquiry into these horrendous failings.
A brief and incomplete history, not including serious case reviews, police and council inspections and others I canโt immediately recall
Childrenโs commissioner: 2012
Rotherham: 2014, 2015
Manchester: 2020
Oldham: 2022
Telford: 2022
National: 2022
Kemi Badenochโs comments on the grooming gangs show her to be incapable of doing the job she currently holds and unfit for the one she seeks:
Really glad to see the government taking action on this. Now to get on with reforming the housing market, building more homes and more council homes too!

The priority needs to be implementing the recommendations and making sure that children are kept safe
Professor Alexis Jay said that starting a new inquiry could hinder the implementation of the recommendations from her 2022 report. "We have set out what action is required and people should just get on with it," she told the BBC. She added: "I've certainly been very unhappy about the politicisation of child sexual exploitation and child sexual abuse in the way that many people, sometimes in a very uninformed way, have waded into the argument."
Professor Alexis Jay, who led a 7-year review of sexual abuse which reported in 2022, says starting a new inquiry would delay any implementation of her own recommendations:
Dropped twitter almost permanently now. Only keeping it on my phone for work reasons, because itโs genuinely been a detriment to my mental health this week.
Now to get on with the business of making 2025 the best year possible
Fantastic Christmas stall in Oldham with many chats and treats thanks to my amazing constituency team and councillors lending a hand. ๐๐
We had an opportunity to highlight the @coopparty.party.coop campaign to end violence against shopworkers which has a lot of local support.
