Only 2% of unpaid carers in Scotland receive the support they need to enable them to have a break from caring.

Thank you @graemedey.bsky.social and @michaelmatheson.bsky.social for supporting the pledge that all carers should have a right to a break from caring.

300,000 people give up paid employment every year in Scotland because they are no longer able to juggle their job alongside their caring commitments.

Thank you @thomascarthur.bsky.social for supporting the pledge that no carer should be forced to give up work to care.

In the last 2 years, 42% of carers centres in Scotland have received no increase in their funding from local authorities.

Thank you @martinwhitfieldmsp.bsky.social for supporting our pledge for better and secure funding for local carers centres and young carer services.

I had a conversation with the amazing Shubhanna Hussain of the Coalition of Carers in Scotland this week.

I’m now convinced more than ever that we need national care standards in Scotland & party politics must be put to one side to achieve this goal.

No more postcode lotteries!

The Scottish Government must provide funding to support unpaid carers. Offset the employer national insurance costs for carer organisations. Additional investment in easy access short break services. Scrap social care charges for disabled and older people. Improve Carer Support Payment, by: Increasing the earnings threshold. Extending the payment of Carer Support Payment to 12 weeks after the cared-for person dies. Delivering an additional payment for those caring for more than one person.

The Scottish Budget takes place on 4th December.

Unpaid carers and local carer organisations are experiencing significant funding pressures alongside the rising cost of living.

The National Carer Organisations are urging the Scottish Government to secure funding and support for unpaid carers.

Social care support is how many disabled people and unpaid carers are able to access some of their most basic human rights.

It's an utter disgrace that councils continue to charge people to access essential care and support!

This was an SNP manifesto commitment. The Feeley Report recommended that these charges end - incompatible with human rights. The Scottish Govt voted to implement this recommendation. It wasn’t included in the National Care Service planning to enable charging to end sooner. Yet, nothing has changed.

In Scotland, people with support needs pay over Β£40 million every year in social care charges.

This is putting many disabled people and their unpaid carers at risk of poverty.

We are asking for an end to non residential social care charging in Scotland!
