Text graphic which reads: Racism causes trauma and mental ill health. Our new research explores the nature of trauma experienced by people from racialised communities and calls for better support from mental health services.
Quote from research participant: “It was just, you know, white people are kings and Black people’s history started at slavery. So, I think from a young age that kind of has an impact.”
🧵1/2 If you've been affected by the trauma of racism, or are seeking to help people who are, our new guides will help. Racism causes trauma and mental illness. Public services that don't understand race, racism and trauma-informed care can compound this - for both people seeking support and workers

Card showing an image of a family with a mother and two children, below a metaphorical poverty line. Text reads 'The average person in poverty now lives 29% below the poverty line, compared with 23% in the mid 1990s.
📢 The latest figures from #UKPoverty2026 reveal a picture of poverty hardening, not easing.
The average person in poverty in 2021-24 was 29% below the poverty line.
This is up from 23% in 1994-97.
As people fall further into poverty, the impact on their lives worsens.

Healing takes time. ⏳
This study shows just how much.
A major UK trial (DECRYPT) tested cognitive therapy for PTSD (CT-PTSD) for young people facing multiple traumas. Both groups improved, but CT-PTSD delivered clearer, stronger gains by 11 months.

We couldn’t help tear up watching this tender moment.
A testament to the power of animal therapy.
It’s incredible how the calm, gentle, non-judgemental presence of animals inspires awe, stimulates reflection and opens pathways of communication.
