“This is a victory for every Oregonian who believes that exercising your constitutional rights should never put you in harm’s way.

We filed arguments and evidence in this case because what we documented was clear: unconstitutional behavior by ICE officers – targeting children, seniors, and peaceful crowds. Parents, teachers, union members, and some people who were just passing by – people who did nothing wrong. We received reports of children screaming in fear, and of senior citizens who couldn’t breathe.

This behavior is unacceptable and unlawful. Nationally, we’re seeing an administration that is perpetuating violence without justification, claiming immunity where none exists. We will continue to fight for Oregonians every day.

AG Rayfield and a bipartisan, multistate coalition are supporting a statute that protects minors from social media addiction and associated mental health harms. The statute, which limits social media platforms’ use of data about minors to develop algorithmic processes that lead to addictive use of social media, has been challenged by Google, Meta, and TikTok.

Oregon has been a leader in data privacy protections, and we intend to keep it that way.

That’s why we’re working to protect minors from social media addiction and associated mental health harms.

This week, we led a multistate coalition in filing a lawsuit to block new, illegal tariffs recently announced by the Trump administration. If the president wants to set tariffs, he must do so lawfully - through Congress. #orpol

What happened: Today, AG Rayfield and a multistate coalition secured a court order requiring the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to promptly take the steps necessary to reverse the termination of the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities Program (BRIC) and restore billions of dollars for disaster mitigation projects to the communities that are relying on them. The decision follows a motion filed by the coalition to compel FEMA to comply with a previous court order from December.

Why this matters in Oregon: FEMA BRIC grants awarded in Oregon include nearly $14 million in federal funds to help Clatsop County prepare for a potential Cascadia subduction zone earthquake and tsunami; nearly $35 million for critical infrastructure improvements to the City of Medford’s water distribution system; and $50 million to help the City of Grants Pass move its existing water treatment plant outside of a flood hazard area.

These dollars are critical to keeping our communities safe and responding to disasters.

AG Rayfield is leading a multistate coalition in a lawsuit to block the president’s latest efforts to impose illegal tariffs on American consumers and businesses. Two weeks ago, the Supreme Court ruled the president’s tariffs under IEEPA unconstitutional. The president immediately turned to a separate law that has never been used before—Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974—and announced 15% tariffs on most products worldwide. The states are once again challenging this illegal taxation.

A recent analysis by researchers at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York concluded that nearly 90% of the costs of tariffs in 2025 were paid by American consumers and businesses. Experts estimate that, in Oregon, the tariffs will raise the cost of living for the average family by more than $1200 a year. This essentially imposes a sales tax on citizens of the state, something that Oregonians have voted down for years.

Today, AG Rayfield and a multistate coalition are filing a brief in court defending the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) guarantee of no-cost contraception coverage by employer health care plans. The underlying lawsuit challenges federal regulations that expand religious and moral exemptions to allow employers to strip workers of guaranteed, no-cost coverage for birth control and other contraceptive care and services.

More than 80% of women ages 18-49 report having used some form of contraception in the past 12 months. With contraception costing an average of $584 per user per year, these unlawful regulations could shift an estimated $73.8 million in costs to consumers and put personal, economic, and public health at risk. States will also face significant financial strain as they are forced to expend millions of dollars for replacement contraceptive care and services through state-funded programs.
