The cool thing is that his language may speak to the admittedly rump fraction of the Republicans who have some vestigial morality and patriotism. I hope more Dems adopt elements of this. I think its a powerful and potentially effective message.

Now that his re-election numbers have improved he's been freed to go on offense instead of being defensive and relentlessly focused on fund raising.

Keep an eye out for deployments of (more) Independence class littoral combat ships to the gulf. That class of relatively small ships has recently been upgraded to have anti mine capability. /2

Here's a real problem. The US Navy actually has a weakness in that it has neglected anti mine warfare capability. They're probably worried alot about losing an escorted ship or even one of their own to a mine in the strait.

They made some belated progress recently in this regard tho. /1

Yeah this is right except I don't think the Iranians have ballistic missiles that can hit moving ships. That's China. But they do have cruise missiles so you need AEGIS capable ships to fend those off. As you say, those are limited in number and dedicated to defending US military assets.

The Navy doesn't have enough ships with anti air capability (i.e. Ticonderogas and Arleigh Burkes). The ones they have are dedicated to defending US assets such as carriers and bases.

Eventually they may have to try to set up a convoy system but the Navy is pushing back it seems.

Both are correct. Out of date intel plus lowered thresholds on rules of engagement. Yeah use of AI might be in the mix. They're probably not using it properly. AI should be used only for a first draft of a target list and then be validated by humans. These morons are ripe for misuse.

Really rooting for Taiwan to license/iterate Ukrainian & home grown drone designs and pack them with their best AI chips so they can just swarm invading ships.
