Analyses of mechanisms suggest that the refugees’ health outcomes are affected by interaction with neighbors and characteristics of the immediate environment, while the role of access to health care and labor markets is limited.
How do neighborhoods shape health outcomes? In our new WP we show that living in low-income neighborhoods increases the likelihood of developing lifestyle related diseases. To pin down causal place effects, we compare refugees who are quasi-randomly assigned to different locations in Denmark.
