I upgraded a 17 year old Dell laptop with just 4gb of RAM from Windows 10 to Linux Mint.
It's simple. The interface is familiar. It's free. It has no AI. It can be installed on old but still entirely useful hardware.
Just switch. It's time.
I haven't subscribed to a standalone "AI" service but in at least three cases (Google, Microsoft, Adobe) "AI" was shoved into an already existing subscription whether I wanted it there or not, including, in the case of Google, the subscription I had because I didn't want to pay for the "AI" option.
