The U.S. and Israeli bombardment of Iran is a reckless escalation that risks a catastrophic regional conflict. 🕊️🌍
I’m calling on the Prime Minister to condemn these attacks and ensure Canada is not complicit through arms exports. 🚫🔫

Through the Liberals’ repeated use of Section 107 of the Canada Labour Code, they are violating the Charter-protected right to strike and attacking workers’ ability to fight for a liveable wage.
My op-ed: Rather than resurrecting failed pipelines, we must use the current energy crisis to finally wean ourselves off of fossil fuels
We have all of the solutions. We just need a gov that will commit to and lead the transition

Alongside tax breaks to corporate landlords and private jet owners, Carney’s Liberals have repeatedly violated the constitutionally-protected right to strike when workers stood up for liveable wages and safe working conditions.
I know Canada’s electorate is mainly focused on the economy right now, but the abject failure of the Carney government to offer even token support for international law should be a real black eye.
A complete abandonment of Canadian values at a critical moment in global history.
From community members and grassroots leaders, I’ve heard clear messages condemning the paramilitary force and authoritarian aggression by ICE.
Government officials must not remain silent about our closest neighbour embracing fascist authoritarianism.

My Cartoon for Thursday's Toronto Star
I express again my heartbreak about the tragedy at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in BC. I reiterate that my love goes out to all students, families, teachers, frontline workers, friends and community members impacted.
Today is a dark day for folks across Canada who grieve the loss of so many young lives that were taken far too soon. Today we remember the immeasurable value of every child and young person and the responsibility of everyone to uphold their safety and wellbeing.
The loss of two innocent children in Kitigan Zibi leaves me without words. This news is devastating for all community members, and my heart goes out to everyone who has been impacted.
I am proud to endorse Avi Lewis. Like me, he is a lifelong socialist and a lifelong New Democrat. We built campaigns from the ground up, sold memberships to first time New Democrats, raised the money, and proved the sky does not fall when real progressives lead. What gives me hope are Avi’s endorsements. Workers. Union leaders. Feminists. Indigenous and Black leaders. 2SLGBTQQIA+ activists. Former and current MLAs, MPPs, MPs. Leaders in Quebec. This is what a big, inclusive party looks like. And over one million dollars raised speaks volumes. Leah Gazan, MP Winnipeg Centre

Thank you to my colleague @loriidlout.bsky.social for raising this critical issue in Question Period.
Pimicikamak remains in a state of emergency while the government is failing to act. When will they fulfill their constitutional duty of care and help people return safely to their homes?
No pipelines in a climate emergency. Protect our communities, oceans, wildlife, and forests. Respect Indigenous rights.
Tell Carney: Don’t ram a pipeline through the BC coast. Sign now ✏️ leadnow.ca/campaigns/sa...
Okay, cheers
Not running against your spouse is a gross over simplification if what the situation is, or even her own words.
We've reached an impasse, have a good rest of your day
One doing the bidding of another is definitely NOT the definition of proxy candidate.
Show me any source which would give you that definition.
Or don't, and I hope you have a good rest of your day
I literally quoted the CTVNews article and linked it for you. Are you disputing their reporting?
Are you able to answer what the definition of a proxy candidate is?
If you can't define it or engage with any question I ask, I am going to have to assume this convo is in bad faith.
I take away no agency by repeating her statement, and if you feel you've a better definition for a proxy candidate than a placeholder for a rejected campaign, then I'd love to hear it.
Define for me a proxy candidate then, please.
By quoting her own statement? I cannot help that she defined herself that way. She may have regretted that later, but my referencing her statement does not take away her agency.
FTR I wouldn't have banned Engler in the first place. But Mugyenyi making that statement was shooting herself in the foot
It is literally stating that you are a placeholder for another candidate. That is exactly an explicit admission of being a proxy candidate.
Do you have a better definition of a proxy candidate than a placeholder candidate?
White text on purple background: "Given the extraordinary powers vested in police officers, the public is entitled to a system of oversight that is transparent, independent, and beyond reproach."
BCCLA strongly condemns the reported use of force by Durham Regional Police Service officers against Sudine Riley, a Black defence lawyer, inside the Oshawa Courthouse while she was performing her professional duties.

I'm having trouble finding the exact quote. It came from her socials but here's a quote from the CTVNews article:
Mugyenyi says in an online post that it’s undemocratic for the NDP to block her husband from running and says she will step aside if he’s allowed to run.

If she was not his wife, just the campaign manager, and made the same explicit statement of being a proxy candidate it would be fair to call her a proxy candidate.
The explicit statement is the most important detail.
Combined with the explicit statement of being a proxy, yes.
When she announced her campaign, she literally said she would rescind her candidacy if the party reversed its decision on denying Engler. It is strange to omit that detail when discussing whether someone is a proxy or not, no?
