My father is leaving the world of the living, and though he stepped out of my life decades ago, it's still a strange feeling.

TD2 has gotten better than it was at release, and in no small part thanks to its many initiatives like ETF and other programs I can't go into. I don't know the other games so I can't compare, but it's in a very good place right now. Sometimes the UX just goes backwards on little details... 🤷😅

Yeah... Customer-facing AI is enshitifying every single customer support interaction on Earth and it's terrible. My nerves can't handle that.
The few good use cases I'm seeing don't get people fired because they *need* people to work, and they bring in less money, so nobody cares...

(For those who haven't played Fallout 76, "vic adoriam" is a mispronunciation of a faction's motto ("ad victoriam") by one young clumsy member. They're the "we want tech in (our) control for the good of humanity" faction, so I use it as a fun way to state that I want *that* tech in control.)

Yes, I know, old woman yells at cloud, vic adoriam and all that. But the waste of resources is sad, when something good could probably be done with LLMs without obliterating jobs, the planet, and PC parts prices.

The number of industries trying to force AI down our throats for maximum profit while completely misunderstanding the meaning of "intelligence" is staggering. As a linguist who understands what LLMs are and aren't, it would be laughable if it didn't mean so many people losing their jobs to slop.
