What font do you like to use when writing? I feel like Arial puts me in a daze when the manuscript starts to get 10+ pages. SF Pro from Apple is really nice, but it's hard to send a Word doc around the lab, and no one else got the font... π€

Crowd feeling exhilarated, pointing to 3 planes performing a stunt routine with smoke trails under the blue sky.
I got out to AirVenture in Oskosh, WI this weekend and felt really pumped. It felt comforting seeing everyone united under one bluesky and cheering for the same team.
My next goal is to πππ¦ out to AirVenture ;)
Fellow UW SMPH neuro people, whassup!
This is a great example of #paralleltranslation at WITNe, taking advantage of existing surgical procedures to supplement mechanistic insights into neuromodulation therapies from benchtop, cell culture/organoid, computational modeling, small animal, and large animal studies.

This is the first study I've led! π¦

I couldn't have done this without my teachers (Wendell Lake, Laura Dent, Kip Ludwig, and Aaron Suminski) + students (Jordan Ranum) at WITNe and the University of Wisconsin Department of Neurological Surgery. π
*TAPS is Transcutaneous Afferent Patterned Stimulation, low current peripheral nerves stimulation using a wrist watch. #neuroskyence
Non-invasive neuromodulation β‘π§ often lacks mechanistic evidence supporting its clinical efficacy. Recently, I (helped π) led this study exploring how TAPS* may treat Essential Tremor. We measured thalamic LFPs during human DBS surgeries to test how the VIM thalamus responds to TAPS. π§ͺ

Slacked off from writing papers to to integrate Claude into my site for surgical techniques. The LLM ai showed some exciting results as it's able to draw on abdominal anatomy to offer tips on how to do a liposuction π²

I always wonder why CMV and Toxo have different calcification pattern? Do you think it has to do with their size, ie CMV is much smaller and can spread to/ through the csf?
Blots of cloud forming the figure of a bird with wings wide open as it soars across the blue sky over the idyllic UW-Madison campus and lake.
It's a Bird... It's a Plane... It's Cloud πͺΆ
Fun day in the neurosurgery. I remember when Brian asked if he could bring his instrument, and I enthusiastically encouraged him to bring in the trombone! XD

Under the warmly lit foliage, two brown robins sitting low and flared out at the base with their necks cranked back.
Found these robins dozing off for 5 mins or so with their necks cranked back. Were they πͺΆ sunbathing or just eepy?
I agree, thank you π
Interestingβ¦ looking at the bimodal organization of the vagal nerve (iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1... ), itβs likely that the patientβs vocal cord paresis came from trauma/ dissections of the medial vagal fascicles that would give rise to the recurrent laryngeal branch?
Ducks swimming around marsh by edge of lake
Close-up of said πͺΆβs.
Are these ducks or mallards because patients have definitely called me out in the past for misidentifying them? π
Ducks bathing in lake under blue sky
Bluesky here in Madison, Wisconsin today. Glad to see the weather warming up and the πͺΆ flocking back to tell an early spring! π

Hi Monica,
I am a medical student who pursue research in neurosurgical care and neuroscience. Please add me to the science feed. Thank you in advance! :)

@vanshjain.bsky.social Bro should have gone to med school and taken 500 millions hrs of standardized testing so that they could teach about confounders
