At last Albanese. You've been running with a bad crowd lately. Didn't your mother tell you to make sure your friends are decent people and stop hanging out with thugs and bad sorts.

Presidential Cankles - there's a fun thought.
Same people who did that great mural of Tony Abbott and George Pell hot and frothy in a crotch grab moment?
Walter Benjamin once wrote:
βCapitalism is entirely without precedent. It is a religion which offers not the reform of existence, but its complete destruction.β
He could clearly see in the 1930s what has come back into view for us now. Capitalist nihilism is back.
Normally this should be viewed as an assault on a democratic institutions. Records tell it as it is. They are hard to argue against.
What were they feeding the poor guy that he died at only 12 years of age?
Does Chris Minns not understand that backing police for beating up muslims in prayer, prostrate on the ground, immersed in spiritual thoughts is about as bad as anything Pauline Hanson has ever said.

Gary Stevenson is worth listening to. He's smart and comes from that end of town where people are now suffering. Referring to him as a millionaire is the ABC way of protecting property values by diluting his message. He's smart, and cares about what's happened.

Sent a few copies of Man Alone to Denmark last week. We've now sold (outside of Australia) to USA, Canada, Ireland, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece in three years. Yeah, we're small.

That's nice, but none of this is available in Australia.
When is Criterion Chanel coming to Australia? what's going on! What is Australia excluded from these films!

We need to free ourselves from the old institutions that stifle the arts. Here we go, free of the past.

Those Overthinkers have hosted another great hour. Sarah Lubrano, who I wish spoke more slowly, is a great guest, her research on political and social engagement is enlightening.

Why wasn't the second yellow - ie red card - part of the original VAR guidelines. second yellow and red card, same thing. A serious lack of clarity. Goalkicks 8 seconds. BUT VAR 10 minutes. Football may become a snoozefest.

Thanks Louise, for giving us the language to keep going.

Mark Mazower could steal the show. His recent book on anti-semitism should be illuminating.
Looking at the Adelaide Festival Board and wondering what all this skill with governance and business and whatnot is in aid of if there is nothing to govern and no business coming from it. Oh, well, there's always next year, eh.

Perhaps I could ask the family if we should host something artsy for our International guests. it's inhospitable not to offer.
Bit of a favourite
The first time Charlie Chaplin spoke onscreen, he implored the people of the world to resist the rising tide of fascism.
Nearly 90 years later, it remains a timely message.
It tells me it's time to start from the ground up with literary festivals. Let go of the sponsoring institutions and all their yes men and brown nosers and start with something worth listening to and attending.
Looks to me like some forms of racism are acceptable in a modern Australia. Right before a Royal Commission into one form.
