In the mid-1980s my father and I entered a glass-recycling sticker design competition. Our design was inspired by Holle Bolle Gijs from theme park the Efteling, which is located in Kaatsheuvel, The Netherlands. We didn’t win, but it was great fun doing it together.

The rupee symbol is a blend of the Devanagari letter ‘Ra’ and the Latin capital ‘R’, the former has a sharp top right angle, so I guess it’s not weird designing the rupee symbol with this angle.

As its name suggests, Vandertak CAPSLOCK is an all-caps version of “Vandertak”. But it is also much more than that. Referencing the architectural origins of the typeface, the five “stackable” styles have a dimensional look.

Jan-Willem van der Looij (not on Bluesky) and I letterpress printed an art poster for the football match between FC Eindhoven and Vitesse. For the poster I made two linocuts, one with vertical stripes (both clubs have stripes on their home jerseys) and one with text. We think the result looks great.
We use Text for a weight in between Regular and Medium, which is not very clear also. The Text weight is for texts which are typeset small.
