Reaching net zero by 2050 β€˜cheaper for UK than one fossil fuel crisis’ Climate change committee finds move to renewable energy would also bring health, economic and security benefits

Our dependency on fossil fuels makes us vulnerable. Wars across the world are pushing up prices for households in the UK.

Why keep waiting for the next crisis? We need to transition to clean power as fast as we can to protect people and our economy.

Remember guys, you can’t afford a gas rig, or a coal mine, or a nuclear power station, but you can afford to put some cheap solar panels on your roof.

That’s why the fossil fuel industry has spent billions trying to kill renewable energy.

The dealer needs to keep you addicted.

Very few consumers in the world, maybe 1 in 8, are shielded from the rise in gasoline&diesel prices (in that their government subsidizes fuel prices). A common mistake is thinking that being an oil exporter will shield consumers. Only switching to clean transport&energy does.

Denmark responded to 1973 oil crisis by reducing car-dependency. Let's do that now. - Streetsblog Chicago "The government had to introduce car-free Sundays. And then people realized that the car-free Sunday was the best day of the week."

FYI the 1970s oil crisis was the impetus for Copenhagen turning into a cycling city

How does the U.S.-Israel-Iran war and disruption of oil&gas shipments affect China’s energy strategy? It validates the emphasis on energy security and reducing reliance on oil&gas imports, with clean energy, electrification and green fuels playing a growing role in that strategy.

The article is mostly about plug-in solar, and how 25+ states are changing regs to allow it, so it’s a little less dramatic than the headline

How Fossil Fuel Disruptions Lead to Booms in Solar and Batteries Past oil crises forced countries to cut fuel use and pay high prices, but now falling prices of clean tech offer another solution.

Past fossil-fuel price spikes left import-dependent countries with two options: pay up or cut fuel use. Now there is an alternative in solar and batteries.

I looked at recent examples in Europe, Pakistan, Cuba to glean what might happen with the war on Iran.

Gas prices jumped again this morning and are on track to double - a stark reminder of our exposure to fossil fuel volatility.

The real solution isn’t more drilling, but moving away from combustion: electrify, use renewable power, and boost energy efficiency.

Strait of Hormuz has been an exposed jugular of the global economy for 50 years. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a technology that could remove that vulnerability completely?

Microsoft bought 93% of all the carbon removal credits globally last year. This is absurd, and no way to determine which method might actually work and scale. Carbon dioxide removal research and development should be government-funded and government-led.

How Southeast Asia's Low-Emission Chemicals Sector Can Expand - RMI Southeast Asia’s chemicals sector is enormous, economically indispensable, and poised for rapid expansion. Nowhere is that more evident than on Singapore’s Jurong Island, an industrial hub built on reclaimed land that hosts over 100 global energy and chemicals companies and employs over 27,000 people. These chemical plants and refineries produce the plastics, fertilizers, solvents, and […]

Just 20 years ago, coal produced over half the electricity in the United States while wind and solar produced only 1%. Last year, coal was only 16% of the mix with renewables at 24% and growing.

Never let anyone convince you that huge change can’t come quickly.
