I wish we pushed for research on the political economy of academia more. It's what takes us beyond "oh why did this one person cite a fake journal article?" into "why do we have a system that rewards people who do not engage with prior research and simply churn out pubs?"

This year has been like a domino effect that started on January 24, 2025, the day that my sister, who worked as a #USAID federal contractor, was furloughed from her job. Less than two weeks later, she lost not only a job but her entire career in an instant with a swipe of a pen. 2/7

I was not planning on responding to this post, but let me say this. Responses like this are exactly why we are still in this mess. When we refuse to express empathy, we lose our capacity for compassion. Lastly, when we lose both of those things then we miss out in our chance towards peace.
Since the 10/7 attacks, my life as a Jew along with many other Jews around the world has not been the same. I’ve faced virulent antisemitism from both the left and right and today’s shooting in Sydney just feels like the final nail in the coffin for me.

If anything in some instances the HHS secretary does NOT even know anything about accessibility. At one of my previous institutions, the president was the former HHS secretary and had no idea that there were NO such thing as registration papers or certificates of service animals.

One of the accommodations, she denied was a note-taker and instead recommended I use a recording pen for note-taking, which I pointed out to her was not ideal for a deaf student who also has visual impairments. 🤷🏼♀️
That @theatlantic.com article made me cringe so hard, especially when one of the ppl quoted was a service provider who denied me all of my accommodations over ten years ago, when I was deciding btwn 2 different colleges.
If you are reading that article that thinks too many students get accommodations & feeling like maybe it has a point, you should instead read @dorfmandoron.bsky.social's "Fear of the Disability Con" (www.jstor.org/stable/45284...).
As somebody who was born and raised in the suburban Atlanta area, all I can say is that this is amazing! The #democraticparty needs to take note of this and that the Deep South is an area to be watched.
Even by the standards of The Atlantic, this is an extraordinarily weak evidence base for an article.
Data from a tiny handful of schools that isn't measuring the variable at issue and a few thin, secondhand anecdotes.
