The "fighters vs folders" taxonomy (as opposed to the "progressives vs moderates" taxonomy) for the @democraticparty.bsky.social is an interesting take. #BradLander did pretty well hitching his wagon to #Mamdani (and getting himself arrested).
I wonder how McDonalds' food trailer business in the United States has panned out so far. I haven't seen any, but I haven't exactly been looking for them...

Jameson Quinn died in a fall in Guatemala on March 23, 2025.
This is his mother Helen Quinn, just to inform his followers here of this tragic event. We will check this profile for your responses. Anyone who has copies of recent writings from him not posted here please let us know.
3/ He was persistent, which I appreciate now more than ever. He was patient with me when I was unreasonable & I've learned so much from him. With the huge digital footprint he left, many of us will be learning from him for quite some time. We will miss him, and others will learn to miss him too.
2/ Jameson was a moderating force in many conversations over the decades, and was patient about getting unreasonable people to listen to reason. This seemed almost adorable when I first learned of him, given whose minds he was sometimes trying to change: lists.electorama.com/pipermail/el...
1/ Helen, I am so sorry for your loss. As we all know, Jameson was brilliant, and his death came much too soon. One big reason why I joined the Equal.Vote Coaltion: the opportunity to work with Jameson. I'll stick with it, but it'll be harder without him.
TIL: what Roko's Basilisk is. It seems the Pascal's Wager comparison has been made for a while...

In fairness, The Atlantic got it right -- perhaps the exception that proves the rule...
I just released the code for converting Brian Olson's (@bolson.org) "RCV Election Data" into ABIF and published the results using ABIF web tool (awt) . Now I'm publishing the results of over 400 elections:

What's becoming clear is that this is Trump's negotiating tactic to get Mexico to build the wall that he promised Mexico would pay for in his first term.

I'm not privy to whether a U.S/Canadian wall is in the works, nor who is paying for it.
What makes davidzmorris think there are no Rationalists in China?
You're probably right. #GenX didn't have to hide under the desks (that was a #Boomer thing), but I learned about the two Russian revolutions of 1917 in high school, and it was just taken as a given that we could be nuked by the Russians at any time.

Elon Musk "is the world’s leading free speech hypocrite," @seth-stern.bsky.social tells @the-independent.com's @iododds.bsky.social. "And his actions with respect to Wikipedia are further evidence of that."
Today would have marked 52 years of Roe as the law of the land. But Donald Trump packed the Supreme Court with anti-abortion extremists to get it overturned.
This week, he cut off access to reproductiverights.gov.
We must keep fighting for women’s rights.
The Hegseth axe throwing incident (this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMrV... ) seems like the least of our worries regarding his appointment as Secretary of Defense. However, it is VERY telling of overconfidence and not knowing one's limitations. Dunning-Kruger anyone?
There are many RealNetworks alums that are a little sore about this thread ("haters gonna hate!"). I was at RNWK for nine years (1996-2005). There was a lot we did wrong, but we had the best tech for dialup users. Broadband was adopted quickly, wasn't it?

This Cybertruck did not crash. It made a heartfelt and perhaps ill-advised gesture that, in the moment, might have been misinterpreted as a crash, but we should not rush to judgement.
Would you believe that the Anti-Defamation League believes it was just an "awkward gesture"?

LMAO the Village People's "YMCA" performance at Trump's inaugural ball went so far off the rails the band basically had to stop playing

Apparently, the weather in DC was similar on January 20, 1961 as it is likely to be today.
