Best thing to prevent this Ive learned is to have a possible lamp opposite of yourself, and shine it directly at the page to offset the shadows.

Updated one of my other Hrothgars from default face, to a more accurate aged RP lore look to him. I'm also feeling absolutely normal about it, Though I could go for a shorter mustache if that was an option. (It really hides the mouth on most camera angles)
