Had a 2 day work meeting in June just off Damen El station. Was horrified.... About the number of great local businesses I didn't have time to visit.
Not a bible person and not particularly religious, but I know enough and there are a lot of people out there who claim to be of the utmost faith who ought to re-read Galatians 6:7-9 and re-think their world view and life choices.
Important distinction -its not necessarily flooded once every 100 years, it actually means a 1% chance of flooding in any given year. The "100 year flood" can happen multiple times in a bad year.
The data also highlights critical risks in other areas along the Guadalupe River in Kerr County, revealing more than twice as many Americans live in flood prone areas than FEMA's maps show.
I'm conflicted because I apply for and use grant funding at work - but also annoyed how often people throw up their hands and quit when they don't win a grant for something as important as this. You put important things in a capital budget - grants are for nice to haves. Budget tight? Raise taxes!
I think Dems need to drop the "America/state didnt vote for this" - because some Americans *did* and it's not a defensible position in an argument/debate. So talk specifics, pocketbook issues, healthcare, education, infra. Paint a specific story about a specific demographic and say prove me wrong.

I've got a lot of not so nice things to say about my experience collaborating with FEMA, but cancelling BRIC is so shortsighted. These projects are investments of pennies on the dollar to reduce future liabilities. 👎
