Everyone slamming Meghan Markleโs Netflix show for being โout of touchโ or cringe is clearly not an elder Millennial woman and has also never been on Pinterest ๐ (I will admit she needs a bigger knifeโฆbut the rest is overblown, including the Mindy Kaling storyline)
Does anyone else go like 15 months without forgetting to include the attachment, or to unmute yourself, and then make those and other multiple gaffes with the same person in one day? ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ No, just me? ๐ ๐
Starting with a side hustle doesnโt mean youโre not all in, or risk averse.
Building something sustainable while keeping the lights on is just smart strategy.

I felt silly giving myself the CEO title at my own company.
But I heard a quote that changed my thinking: โIf not you, then who?โ
Even 1 & 2-person companies need a strategic thinker at the helm.
What do you think about solo & small team CEOs? Or are you one but others think itโs odd?
In 2019, 2 months postpartum, I took my 1st paid marketing client for $200. Brought my infant, drove 45 min to meetings, had my father-in-law walk her during.
The money barely covered gas, but it launched FreshLeaf Marketing. And my work ethic hasnโt changed.
Luckily the money has improved ๐๐ฐ
I do something similar, putting all my tasks in Trello in one sitting, then tackling them by priority later
The internet makes business look glamorous. ๐ What it doesnโt show:
โ New offers that flop
โ Losing clients
โ Feeling alone
Iโve worked with many companies in a CMO/marketing director role, and the truth is, they all face challenges.

Did every fast food restaurant simultaneously decide to not serve any ketchup (neither in a dispenser nor packets) unless you ask for it after receiving your order? ๐ ๐
I did a recent email campaign & the hyperlinked text outperformed buttons for clicksโby 9X. I think because hyperlinks feel more natural. Buttons can feel sales-y.
As social reach declines, email is still a channel you own.
Are you amping up email as a channel for 2025?
I love Canva today as much as I loved Kid Pix in the early 90s.

Thanks, didnโt find them on first glance
Iโm surprised more brands arenโt on here, especially marketing/sales ones. HubSpot, Canva, Salesforce, Sprout Social, Mailchimp. Seems like easy effort to be an early-ish adopter.
Same!! Iโd rather do anything else!
Surprising they didnโt have open & send rates before, but โtis true - good news for B2B marketers since LinkedIn is a top channel for us ๐

The same people who told me not to go solo are still in the same jobs, same mid level titles and pay, as they were 10 years ago when they almost convinced me not to try.

You described what I despise perfectly! I think they get newbies in for the initial simplicityโฆbut then users are stuck with bad functionality and think thereโs no better way because they do have the brand awareness
I built my company steadily. No breakthroughs, no buzzy launches.
Just a series of calculated moves in the right direction, repeated over a long period of time.
Whatโs your โboringโ business growth tip?
Havenโt heard of that one. What types of businesses would you recommend it for @courtneyclaren.bsky.social?
Ok Iโll say it: I canโt stand Mailchimp! Used it many years ago, and now use it occasionally (for different clients if they happen to have it). The built-in email module in HubSpot is good. Same with Wix, decent and good reporting
One less thing to worry about! I didnโt discover this on my own either, I read an article about it and was like, oh yeah thatโs true haha
Good point, the service gets better from the long-term working relationship and understanding them better
