She clutches her imaginary pearls with a dramatic gasp, feigning shock when he mentions his beauty sleep.
"Oh! Well, we certainly can't have that, can we?"
She reaches out to run a clawed finger along his jawline, purring as she speaks. "Your beauty sleep is so very important."
Another quiet, schoolgirl-ish giggle slips free as she nods, her tail giving a little flick of agreement.
"Oh, no, I'm the lucky one. It's always so nice to have the company. Being this hot is no fun if I have nobody to share the heat with."
Subtle, Ember. Very subtle.
She chuckles at that, shrugging as she leans back against the couch with a sigh.
"I agree. Though I've been told my magic is plenty good in other ways. I make a wonderful heating pad under the covers on a cold night." she winks.
She hums in thought at that, a teasing smirk on her face as she extinguishes the flame by closing her hand.
"Yeah? Well.... To be fair, I would love to torch a few of the stiffs from the Upper Clergy. Unfortunately, I don't think I'd last here if I did."
She giggles at his remark, deciding to give him a taste of what she means. He hasn't seen her much since she became a ghoul, after all.
She holds up one hand, palm side up, and summons a flame. It dances across her palm as she smirks.
"Imagine this... Everywhere. That's me when I'm angry."
Ember smiles as she looks up at the woman, feeling very much 'mom' vibes from her.
"Well, thank you! I'm happy to be here. Hmm... Y'know what? I'm not very picky, why don't you surprise me? You look like you've been cooking a while, I'm sure you'll pick something I like!"
She hums in thought at that, shrugging her shoulders as she lounges.
"Oh, don't worry, nobody ever tries to. I think everyone knows better than to mess with me. I'm... Kind of a wild card these days."
She nods in agreement as she looks around the room, taking in all of the details. She feels bad, really, she feels like this must be a huge imposition.
"Oh, yes, please. It's so cozy in here, I love it. And I love the centerpieces, they're gorgeous."
She chuckles, nodding in agreement as she leans back against the sofa.
"Well... I *am* a nurse, after all. Healing is my job, sì? If my words can do that, then I'm doing my job right."
Her face lights up at the mention of food, having forgotten to eat breakfast.
"Oh, yes, please! I'm famished."
She follows him through the halls, eager to see the small abbey's dining room.
Ember remains seated until everyone else leaves, wanting to wait to officially be excused before scurrying off. She found the meeting to be rather sluggish, but she was still glad she read that book the night before.
"It's the same way at home, really. Everyone is always in a hurry."
Ember opens the door when she hears the Bishop's voice, smiling. She looks tired, but then again, she was up until nearly 2 in the morning.
"Good morning, sir! Yes, I'm ready."
She steps out of the room, letting the door close behind her.
"Lead the way, sir."
Ember chuckles to herself, shaking her head in amusement as she leaves the library to return to her room. She has a lot of reading to do to prepare for tomorrow's meeting.
When she arrives in her room, she reads for another 3 hours before finally going to bed.
Ember smiles as she follows closely behind, nodding in appreciation when she finds the book she's looking for.
"Thank you so much. Is it alright if I take this back to my room? I'll have it back by morning."
As Ember approaches the librarian's desk, she pauses, and decides to glamor away her horns and tail for the time being. Just in case.
"Excuse me, miss? Could you tell me where you keep the ritual textbooks? I'm sorry, I know it's late, but it's important."
She giggles shyly at the comment about the clinic, her face pinking up when he smiles at her.
"Yeah? Well, you know you're always welcome to drop in when I'm working. I never mind setting aside paperwork for my favorite Papa." she winks, returning his grin with one of her own.
She waves back, though the silliness of it does give her the slightest sense of unease.
Once he's gone, she settles into her room, then heads to the library for some light reading. She wants to be prepared for the meeting, after all.
She nods, committing the directions to memory.
"Perfect, thank you. So... I'll see you tomorrow, then? What time is the meeting going to be rescheduled for?"
She doesn't seem to suspect a thing, seeing nothing odd about him yet.
"Thank you so much. I think I may do that once I'm settled. Speaking of exploring... Any chance you have a library here? I should brush up on some things before the meeting, just to be sure I'm prepared."
She nods, her tail wagging as she moves to sit beside him.
"Grazie, Papa. What have you been up to today? I popped by the clinic to make sure everything was in order, but other than that, I've just been... Kinda hangin' out all day."
"Oh? Are you sure? Usually we don't get much wiggle room for meetings at home. But... If you insist. Thank you for your hospitality, it's nice to feel so welcomed."
She sets her bags on the edge of the bed and holds out one hand for him to shake.
"Tomorrow, then."
She nods in appreciation when he opens the door for her, stepping into the room and looking around. Her eyes light up at the coziness of it, she had truthfully been expecting something far less.
"Oh! Thank you so much, this is wonderful!"
She chuckles softly, nodding in response to his question.
"It's been pretty good so far, but I do think it could be better. Especially if I have a handsome companion around to talk to."
She's nowhere near as smooth as he is, but she's trying.
She does, in fact, decide to join him, smiling as she skips over. It seems she, too, is off duty today.
"Ciao! Are you having a good day so far?"
She can't help but smile at that statement, her tail giving a happy little wiggle.
"I'm glad you feel that way. Especially since... Y'know. I used to be human, too. But unfortunately not everyone feels that way able us."
She nods in agreement, stepping behind him to allow him to lead the way.
"Of course, yes. I, um... I wanted to thank you for your hospitality. I was honestly a little nervous, being a ghoul myself. I know some branches don't see us as... Equals."
She's too polite to mention that he's started speaking in circles, but after another 15 minutes of it, she interrupts with a phony coughing fit.
"Oh, goodness... Apologies. It's that time of year, y'know? Asthma starts to kick up right around now."
She hums in thought, pondering that explanation. She understands it can be taxing, sure, and there are supplies to be bought. Not everyone has the large garden and staff that her branch has.
"Ah, I see. Well, we could lend you some, if you ever need the extra help."
As Ember looks around, she realizes there's a shocking lack of ghouls, and decides to inquire.
"If I may ask... Where are your ghouls? Every Abbey has at least a few."
I can certainly relate, unfortunately.
