Thanks for noticing!
Luckily, in both our algae (Zygnema and Mesotaenium) key (standard and osmotic-specific) stress-related proteins like LEA, AKR, ELIP, SuSy, AHA & tonoplast channels are strongly unregulated.
Algae under salt stress—(un)expected adaptation! 🧬🌱 With Tanya’s collaboration, we found that Mesotaenium adapts well but takes on a short filamentous form instead of its usual single-cell shape! One strategy? PMEs —but many unknown genes are at play.
Exciting findings! 🚀 With the collaborative work of Birgit & Lukas, we highlight the crucial role of FLAs in osmotic & ionic stress response in our algae. While their exact mechanism remains a mystery, our results point to PTMs of sugar groups. Also noteworthy: XTHs are strongly upregulated! 🧬✨
🔬 Systems acclimation to osmotic stress in zygnematophyte cells is now on bioRxiv! 🚀 Huge thanks to @jandevries.bsky.social @unigoettingen.bsky.social. Check it out here: [https://doi.org/xxx]
