But when you talk about destruction-

Sadly not true. The war is at like 40% approval, which even accounting for a few Democratic defectors means the vast majority of his voters approve. A significant minority disapprove, but like 20%.

The good news is that fixing this only requires raising taxes on the top 4% of households

The bad news is that 40% will think their taxes are going up

If Democrats win in 2028, there’s a decent chance the Social Security Trust Fund runs dry during that President’s term

A product of gender polarization? Most men are Republicans, so men who are Democrats tend to be further left than women who are Democrats?

Gotta change the public’s mind to change Congress’ mind

A major problem here is that whoever controls the Presidency or the Supreme Court usually has the approval of most of their partisans, whereas basically nobody approves of Congress and hasn’t in twenty years

I think most people would say that, bar impeachment, it’s not up to *Congress*, and basically everything is up to the Supreme Court

And ultimately it is very much up to “most people”

Unfortunately I am not convinced there is a single Congressman willing to do so

There were *no objections* to his certification last year. There were objections to his constitutionally much less questionable certification in 2017!

For crying out loud, just putting Biden’s name on stuff like Trump did probably narrows the gap

But surely there’s a way to appeal to this base instinct with policies that are roughly neutral instead of massively destructive?

Which I suppose is better than beating them at bigotry, a temptation that Trump’s approval collapse has enabled them to shake off, but still a very bad idea in the long run

Unfortunately the lesson Democratic Senators seem to be learning is “we need to beat Republicans at tax cuts”

It would likely be wise of Congress to pass an act indemnifying such actions except insofar as it is deliberately desired to reverse Trumpian policy.

All the non-political appointees would validly hold their positions regardless of a vacancy in the Presidency. The only actions that would therefore be legally suspect are those that go against pre-existing executive orders which Trump purported to repeal.

Oh, don’t trust them!

Which is why we need as large majorities as we can get come 2029. The 50th Senator determines policy, and Slotkin as #50 is well to the left of Fetterman or even King as #50.

Things change slowly in the Senate, but they do change.

For a comparison: as the Democratic Party became more pro-choice, pro-life Democrats didn’t go down in a single wave of primaries. They did, however, usually either convert or retire and get replaced with pro-choice Democrats.

Counterpoint: even if we just have 50 Senators in 2029, so long as Fetterman is primaried, we will be able to get a lot more done under the new President than we were under Biden, which was more than we were able to get done under Obama despite Obama having 60 Senators

Fortunately, acts of Congress that are neither signed nor vetoed are valid unless passed in the last week of the session.

Unfortunately that requires super-packing because the ruling against Colorado was 9-0

Certainly Netanyahu is very happy about this, but it also didn’t take much to convince Trump.

Israel didn’t force his hand. He’s the most suggestible man alive. He already wanted revenge for Iran trying to kill him, he felt invincible after Venezuela, the protests and their suppression woke up the hawks, and the generals thought Iran was a welcome distraction from Greenland.

“God is punishing us” is an equally viable hypothesis

Instead, they have a random attack with only Israeli support, and restricted in scope by 40% public approval (at the *beginning* of a war!) and the difficulty of getting supplemental funds through Congress

But they’re operating under political constraints

They had a plan to deal with Hormuz being blocked, but that plan assumed that Iran attacked or at least provoked us, assuring international cooperation and popular support for funding and troops on the ground
