Once you go through the door marked ‘activism’, it’s a sheer drop; when you land, you discover that you've been in the wrong room all your life & there's a lot more doors (but no ‘exit’).. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnU6rUuUlzM #Nanas
Again, Farage, Badenoch and their fellow travellers on X are wildly out of touch with the public on Iran.
Even the majority of Reform supporters oppose their position.
A new study warns UK winters are becoming significantly wetter — with rainfall rising 7% for every degree of warming.
Yet Reform dismiss the scientific consensus and want scrap action to stop the climate crisis.
🌎 Climate change is a public law issue.
Ahead of our 'Public Law and the Planet' conference on 3 March, PLP’s CEO Jamie Peters sets out why public law is essential to challenge environmental injustice and defend frontline communities.

The Lie of the Land: who really cares for the countryside?
Shrubsole's book 'The lie of the land' provides a compelling catalogue of the loss of Britain’s natural environment

This year has been brutal for the #climate movement.
Rollbacks, repression, & outright denial, especially in the US, have made progress feel fragile & uneven.
Which is exactly why it matters to pause & look back at what did move forward in 2025.
Here are 12 real wins 🏆, one for each month 🧵⬇️
Word of the day, should you be feeling a little huffish, is ‘apanthropy’ (18th century): a love of solitude and the desire to be away from other people.
A new record - on 5 December wind power produced enough electricity for 3/4 of UK homes
At 23.8GW it meant that even during winter peak demand, it was still providing nearly half the country's power needs
Still a way to go though....

#Biophobia - people can fear what they don't know or understand.
Education in and about nature is vital

It feels freakishly like a 'past' is being created/curated & one day in the future, all of this will seem like it was a big deal to people... wonder if the reality we think we have now, will just be cut in an edit? Surreal times
So many existing oil + gas licenses, pipelines, wells are sited in Marine 'Protected' Areas, as shown on our Watershed Pollution Map. The pollution risks + risks to wildlife if existing licences are expanded are likely to be huge:

“Hong Kong fire: police blame construction firm’s ‘gross negligence’ as death toll rises.. alleged buildings were covered with protective mesh sheets & plastic that may not meet fire standards & discovered some windows were sealed with a foam material” #HongKong www.theguardian.com/news/2025/no...
Hong Kong was 'home' for 10 years and life in high rise never felt safe or comfortable, was relieved to move to smaller buildings. Can't begin to image the horrors of this tragedy. So many still 'missing'
🧵 /1 Hi @stopcambo.bsky.social - You and Uplift have succeeded here - you deserve huge credit 🙏🙏
However, there is a dark side to this new North Sea plan in which the fossil fuel industry &lobbyists win - lock-in to gas based carbon capture
🧵 Thread continues here: bsky.app/profile/dran...
Huge news from the UK today: after UN climate talks in which there was a massive fight over language on fossil fuels, the UK government today announced that it will in fact be keeping many millions of barrels of oil & gas in the ground. Deeds rather than just words for a change! 🧵
[Cuadrilla said needed another year for groundwater monitoring to surrender an environmental permit + extra time to restore to pasture. This is 2nd try for extension. If county council votes against extension, it would be 1st refusal for Preston New Road in a decade.] drillordrop.com/2025/11/26/r...
💚 Very sad to hear of the passing of Jane Goodall. Her work and life’s mission championed conservation and the protection of our planet, and deepened our understanding of the natural world.

"@teamlabouruk.bsky.social will BAN fracking" sounds fab; reality though will be in the detail (along with the devil). Meanwhile please let Ed Miliband know we want an actual all-encompassing BAN. No loopholes/wriggle room/get-out-clauses. Please sign: @friends-earth.bsky.social 👇 foe.uk/ksojs
Water company United Utilities promised to spend £129m to connect private septic tanks to the mains network and reduce sewage pollution.
Spent £76.7m over the last 25 years.
UU paid nearly £13bn in dividends since privatisation

Thoughts on politics right now...
Such an important campaign; this grieving family has spent 11 years fighting for the truth, not only to obtain justice for Zane - but for truth that will protect all of us. #CleanAir #Landfill #TruthAboutZane #ZanesLaw

[..deeply concerning to imagine return to hugely damaging past. Residents/local workers/police/activists – all forced into situation of government’s making. 2019 moratorium stopped fracking & makes clear it can't resume unless proven safe; industry just can’t do that] drillordrop.com/2025/09/03/f...
That which divides us... doesn't always win:
From riverside holes to underground 'central heating'?
Water voles build burrows with composting chambers that generate warmth in winter.

"What's on your mind?" Facebook prompt, prompts. I search mine & find the unbearable...
-Images of starving children/war ravaged places
-Sounds of bombing/shooting/weeping/mourning/raging/begging/pleading to a god or anyone, to end man's inhumanity
-Feelings of helplessness/hopelessness/impotence
A society that doesn’t value life, care for those in need, regards healthcare as a luxury not a necessity, will ultimately not value the care givers, the providers & cut them
It will see life expectancy fall, distain for the poor & sick, value placed in material things instead
And, finally, a message of hope and encouragement from @georgemonbiot.bsky.social
