Fun fact. In the movie The Return, Odysseus is wrecked and washed ashore on Ithaca. That blurs his arrival on Ithaca into his arrival on Scheria. Now, the Ithacan shore scene in the movie is shot on Rovinia Beach, Corfu β€” which Corfiot lore identifies as his 'real' landing point on Scheria.

I guess even if the wrong sort were thought by some to be β€˜overbreeding’ (like you I can’t think of examples of that kind of discourse for antiquity) that was balanced out by high infant/child mortality rates esp among the non-elite
