Russia is infiltrating Cuba more than ever. The US embargo on Cuba has helped Russia create close ties with Cuba - Russia is an essential supply line to Cuba.

But Cubans are in worse poverty now than in previous decades.

Further, the resort I was at recently accepted Rubles among the other currencies (USD, CAD) for tips. This was not a thing just a few years ago.

Cuba is only 100Km from Florida at its closest point.

If ordinary Cubans continue to be fed propaganda from Russian television stations, they may be led to believe that they are saving America if they take part in Russian military aggression towards the US.

Cubans are being recruited by Russia to fight in their war against Ukraine. This is why Ukraine recently closed its embassy in Cuba.

A recent pact between Cuba and Russia signals upcoming increased military cooperation.

Resort staff may not know English at all. But they are learning Russian in Cuban schools.

Several years ago, it was easy to keep up with the news back home and with world events while sipping on a café latte in the lounge at the all inclusive. Now? Nope.

You hear the Russian language spoken more than anything else.

Even CNN is only sparingly available at some resorts. Instead, Russian news broadcasters are parroting Putin talking points, and celebrating his accomplishments 🙄

There really is no positive news or even realistic news about America at ALL on these Russian television stations. They show TLC’s stupid reality shows 24x7 (my 500 lb life, etc) - anything that makes America look like a hellhole is what is on television in Cuba.

This is definitely problematic. The Russian tv stations depict Americans as drug-riddled heroin addicts and meth heads that are littered all over American streets.

Televisions at the resorts don’t often get used, but they include a multitude of Russian television channels - entertainment and news- and very few American channels.

Cuban men and women are having romantic relationships with Russians. Some are even being brought to Russia for visits by their Russian lovers, who can afford to bring them there.

Politically - the Russians have arrived. They were nonexistent ten years ago. Now? They dominate many resorts.

Food quality and variety and availability- even at resorts - is significantly lower. It wasn’t great 10 years ago but it is worse now. Bread and butter are not available at most meals.

Cuba is in crisis, and countries are not acting quickly enough to help.

The differences between my visits there in 2017 and 2025 are startling.
