Totally unrealistic picture - he is wearing a tie and no trucker cap.

It started with the Microslop account, but Copilot really took it to the next level.
Once the security updates for W10 stop, the main rig will be converted to Linux.
I have yet to decide on the distro, but been happy with OpenSUSE at work.
Don't be, it's not your fault and I'm super grateful for your cool care package!
I guess I'll try this again tomorrow, after removing the exploded cap as far as I can, and this time point the camera at it in case its neighbor decides to explode, too.
I'm way too scared to connect it to the PSU again and flip the switch a second time 😭
Excellent image!
I could have done without the jumpscare, though.
At any rate, my only other known working 486 board will not be put at risk, so sadly this marks a stop to my 486 adventures for the foreseeable future.
I guess my current situation is: I don't know if this was simply a coincidence, or if my PSU is to blame, but I won't take risks here.
Will have to find one that is recently tested or better yet, get a new one and an ATX-AT adapter.
I don't know how much damage the board took, apart from that cap.
So... I did control all the jumpers and tried to have it POST, but instead, I had a literal explosion on the board the instant I flipped the power switch.
Flying sparks and a loud bang.
TC26 is gone.
No idea how this could have happened.
But a nice surprise that my 486 DX2-66 was an AMD all along.
I had forgotten!
Not that it actually matters, I believe it is 100% identical to the Intel version, but I have a soft spot for AMD.
Suddenly realized I still have to check the jumper settings for this before I can even check whether it POSTs, in 2 hours (then 2:30 PM) I have to pick up my son, and once he's in bed I immediately have a mandatory thing to do that takes until 5:30 AM.
I guess it will get built tomorrow instead.
Es gibt offenbar mindestens elf (no pun intended) Teile davon, obwohl schon Teil 4 folgendes behauptet:
The 25-40 ish of Wing Commander is honestly the least I am able to suffer. These made space fighters playable for me, but I am also very thankful for the WC3 enhancement patch that finally takes it to a PCMR-friendly 60 FPS.
I must admit I hate early space/flying games like this with a passion.
Single digit frame rates.
This maybe kinda helped play pretend or something, but the actual playability of such games was near zero if we're being honest.
Thanks! Just took a look and your shooter doesn't look half bad either!
I believe the daytime version was first and we forgot to erase it when making a nighttime version.
And suddenly I realize that chandelier should not have a shadow in the left picture lol
The difficulty here is: it has to look visually appealing, but at the same time realistic enough to make the one or two enemies and death/gore truly scary.
An earlier BG work for a Game Jam looks like this, but as the framed pictures on the wall suggest, it was more of a funny crime solving game.
Now that I am finally in good health again, I feel like I could tackle developing that survival-horror point-and-click adventure I have been wanting to do for a decade or so.
I have thought it through pretty far, but one blocker is finding an art style for the 2D hand drawn (hi-res) sprites.
It has become somewhat sunny for a week or so, but that does not explain why it is so fucking hot inside our apartment all of a sudden.
Turns out: our son, who made his first unassisted steps a few days back, has been walking around and turned every thermostat to the maximum.
That is smart, and you should not compromise on it.
I believe when I first played Doom 3, flatscreen monitors used to be LCDs with awful viewing angles and 40+ ns response time (either that or 1000+ $ USD pricetag), so I had no choice but to play on the Trinitron.
Naturally, I couldn't max out the max FPS (160@1024p) or resolution (1536p) of the CRT.

In case anyone else wants to try the Terratec EWS64 XL in Impulse Tracker: the regular Impulse Tracker 2.14 does NOT do the trick, you will need a patched version.
I used 2.14 Patch 5, which to my knowledge is the latest official version. 2.14 unpatched would hang with -13 or without parameters.
Although I have the most recent version of Impulse Tracker, it came with a readme file that only lists 11 sound card select parameters.
But another version of the readme lists two additional parameters for the ESS Audiodrive and the Terratec EWS64 XL, which the dev even named his personal favorite.
Can anyone try to reproduce this and tell me whether I am imagining it?
I felt like the Gravis Ultrasound, SB16 and SB32 all sounded perfectly fine, I couldn't really tell a difference to be honest, and suddenly with the Audiodrive I had the feeling it was crystal clear and kinda fresh?
Interesting: though there's no parameter for it, Impulse Tracker recognizes the ESS Audiodrive 1868f as a separate card instead of using its Sound Blaster Pro compatibility, and much to my surprise I felt it sounded clearer than anything else I have tried so far - including the Ultrasound and AWE32!
The Creative GoldFinch CT1920 is only the EMU8000 (wavetable / General MIDI) portion of an AWE32 and only needs a single address, but it's enough to be used for Impulse Tracker!
The DMA/IRQ shown belongs to the ALS100plus.
Impulse Tracker also shows the free memory of our "AWE".
Who you gonna call?
