Lewis was one of the leaders of what was supposed to be a march from Selma to Montgomery, motivated by the killing of Jimmie Lee Jackson, a Black man shot by a state trooper after a civil rights demonstration in nearby Marion, Ala. George Wallace ordered the police to quash the march. The peaceful marchers, including youth, refused to turn back, kneeling and praying instead. The troopers and sheriff's deputies, some on horseback, eventually attacked, beating marchers with batons and launching tear gas canisters. Lewis' head was cracked open. Local activist Amelia Boynton Robinson was bludgeoned. Dozens were injured. And later, two white civil rights activists who came to Alabama to support the marchers were killed, the Rev. James Reeb, and Viola Liuzzo.

61 years ago today, Bloody Sunday, one of the most notorious modern examples of depravity masquerading as government.

Im just so tired of having to do emotional labor for a situation that was in no way my fault. All while not wanting to crashout on the person bc i dont believe that to be how i should carry myself, so then i scream in my car. Im sick of how my brain works
