Rook runs are honestly my favorite mode to play. I love finding just enough to be scary as a Rook.
you should be operating under the assumption that every team on the map is potentially more skilled and better equipped than you. don't draw attention to yourself, don't pick fights yourself unless you feel good about your kit and position.
also, if you can manage to talk to your team members, try to encourage them to move slowly and quietly. a lot of solo queue players are trying to play this game like fortnite with a lot of fast sprinting to areas of interest and reckless parkour. this will make all of you easy prey to ambushes.
If you need a good weapon on the cheap, go for the Magnum MC. You can get its schema in the pass, it only costs $400 for the base version, and it hits like a truck. you'll find plenty of mods laying around in tool carts to get it up to at least green or blue capability.
good advice here. the free sponsor kits will make you a liability to your team as soon as you inevitably encounter another squad. I will say though, the $4k mystery kits are relatively viable and a good way to get your build back on track if you're missing important parts like shields.

Marathon’s beauty is its absolute rejection of any idea of fairness. You are always up against a grossly imbalanced hell, and the texture of that hell is other players. Solo queue and Rook mode make this as clear as possible. There are no clean getaways. Someone is probably already behind you.
