Where we live, they're considered "uncommon", but we have a pair that have nested to the northeast of us for at least the last few years. They have a baby or two every year and it's fun to listen/watch when they call to each other.

I recently found out that my mom had NO idea we were above 1000 feet elevation and never adjusted for that, so I guess we all lucked out there for decades? 🤷🏻♀️

I was, too. Then someone I know told me to can a batch of jars full of water. That way you can get comfortable with how it works without being worried about losing all your hard work. That helped SO MUCH.
Also, some designs make it really hard for them to explode like they used to.

A large pot of pork tamales wrapped in corn husks is still steaming on the stove. A red enameled cast iron Dutch oven has Mexican rice behind it. The lid to the red pan is on the front burner and discarded husks are on a sheet pan to the side.

You don't have to and won't always need to (if that's your jam), but hand washing with normal dish detergent is fine. Just be sure to rinse and dry thoroughly.
Using a bit of soap can actually stop you from scrubbing hard enough to damage the seasoning through abrasion.

I don't *need* an electric kettle (the old fashioned kind is just fine for me) and I definitely don't *want* stainless steel chopsticks. The thought of it makes my teeth itch.
But we have a tagine, a Moka pot, a pepper mill, a crêpe pan, a tortilla press, and tea towels. I guess we're odd? 😜
