Two whiskey glasses, one filled with blue and the other with amber beads.
I love this visual tool. Coloured glass beads. Each bead represents a task (word count, writing sprint, health goal - steps, etc). I use blue for writing and amber for health.
Each time you finish the task you add a stone to a jar, giving a visual shot of your week.

Honestly, when I think I’m beyond being surprised by people, someone like “Claire” says this - publicly.

Gladys Mae West obituary: mathematician who pioneered GPS technology
She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.
No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.
Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Disabled people have a poverty rate 8 percentage points higher than people with no disability.
🗣️ Hear Lead Analyst @datataha.bsky.social set out some of the additional structural barriers that disabled people face, and why the government must increase their support. 👇

Listened to Sally-Anne Martyn on The Writers Routine as I sat waiting for my daughter in a car park (hello to those who know how that feels) and downloaded Will Storr’s The Science of Storytelling.
Such an improvement from January

NEW: Emily Thornberry, Labour chair of foreign affairs committee, says police should investigate emails.
"Surely this is not a matter of whether Mandelson should be in the Lords [but]... of whether the police should be involved."
SNP, Lib Dems and PC have all already called for police involvement

The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.

As the BBC - abandoning even the vaguest pretence at balance for a campaign grounded in passionate intensity - it's worth reading this joint statement signed by 40 children’s charities, digital safety experts and bereaved families.
They oppose one.

Photo taken from inside a car of a car park at dusk, lights just turned on
Wouldn’t it be great if we got paid by the hour for the time spent in car parks, especially as a parent carer! I seem to spend half my life sat in the car, waiting for someone or something.
Thankfully, I can write my draft in the car so it’s all good.

We evacuated our kids out of Minneapolis this weekend and my spouse reports that as she drove them out of town she saw "multiple freeway exits where people are being pulled over." It feels like the Twin Cities is being subjugated by a hostile occupying force.

Motability Myths, Manufactured Outrage & Why Disabled People Keep Becoming the Scapegoats
And why we need to call it out when we see it
When a government needs a distraction, or a quick moral panic to keep the public looking sideways instead of upwards, it picks a group and tells a story about them.

PIP is not about income. Its about "overcoming the costs" of a disability. Any study that shows PIP reform will put people into poverty shows that PIP is being misused and that other parts of the benefits system (ie UC) are inadequate. 120 Labour MPs clearly cannot be bothered to read legislation

Scrapping EHCPs won’t fix the cracks. It just hides who’s falling through them.
Seriously? What is this government doing? It’s like we’re in a parody and someone is going to shout “surprise, only joking” soon!
