ICE is now responsible for 66% of the homicides in Minneapolis this year.
For instance, the MPD is currently gassing the crowd that has gathered at the site of this morning's execution.
I agree the 'do not escalate' argument seems absurd when ICE doesn't need an excuse to do whatever they want. Even so - the MPD cannot be counted on. While they officially have a non-cooperation policy with ICE, they also routinely 'manage public safety' around ICE operations here.
It's currently -10° in Minneapolis and they still got thousands of people to march and protest outside.
They picked the wrong city.
I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.
A powerful campaign ad, and a great write-up about it from Burn Notice. As Katelyn Burns says, "Political issues aren't siloes, they're all connected, and Mamdani recognizes that. Other Democrats need to see it too, and I hope they are paying attention."
