That's excellent news. Good luck to both!

#otd in 1935, the woman who brought Fascism to Britain, Rotha Lintorn Orman, died on Grand Canaria aged 40, after spiralling into drunkenness and debt.

Almost 10,000 authors have come together to publish an empty book protesting the theft of books by tech companies to train AI models.
Titled Donβt Steal This Book, it is empty of text except the names of the authors involved.. π§΅

I just published (yet another) #book review, this time for Social and Cultural #History. If you are interested in my musings, you can read it here for free.
I'll be in #Newcastle this Thursday (12 March) to discuss my new book. If you happen to be around, please join me at Newcastle Central Library at 5.30 pm! Looking forward to being back in Toon!
In June 1938 Jonny, Julius and Sigi Grossbard were sent to Dachau.Β
They were released & fled to the UK, where they were interned as enemy aliens & transported to Australia on the HMT Dunera in 1940.

Polls have closed in the first of this year's five German state elections, in prosperous Baden-WΓΌrttemberg. It's looking like a remarkable win-from-behind by the Greens under @oezdemir.de. Full results over the course of the evening.
SPD (German sister party of the UK #Labour Party) in Baden-WΓΌrttemberg down to 5.5%. That's barely above the threshold. While the South West was always difficult for the party, it's also worth noting that its recent support for welfare cuts suppressed its (small) core vote. Warning tale for Labour!
Congratulations!
Totally! Also makes me feel old now. π
I am now long enough in the game to see former students, whose MA theses I marked, to publish their PhD books. I can only recommend Rowan's study. Insightful and with many findings that are still important understand Britain today.
The first woman in Parliament to appear in the Guardian's 'best-dressed at Glastonbury' feature.
You'll never sing that, etc...
In this case it's okay and fully justified.
It's not like people haven't pointed this out for at least a year or so. The problem was that no one in Labour wanted to hear it.
What I said 9 months ago... Starmerism-McSweeneyism was already a dead end back then.

Once upon a time, not long ago, there were people who thought it was perfectly normal to learn a trade, and then if you wanted to, to go university (and vice versa). A mate of mine learned the noble trade of toolmaker and then went to university to study political science.
Very often historians also have to explain why already at the time many people thought that stuff is stupid. (Big argument against historical relativism!)

Seeing #Canada playing a really strong #Czech team, I immediately had to think of this classic.
An ominous sign... Italy's 'Loversβ Arch' collapses into sea on Valentine's Day.
I also think you probably need to write another book on the history and politics either of patΓ© or the baguette. Perfect trifecta of French food-themed history!
What is actually going on there? Reads all very ominous...
And just in time for the official #book launch this Wednesday, the affordable paperback version is back in stock! www.bloomsbury.com/uk/dictators...
Quick reminder that I will be discussing my new #book this Wednesday in #Liverpool. I'll chat with my colleague @jamescrossland.bsky.social about the key themes and what they might mean for our understanding of #authoritarian #politics in past and present. Free tickets are still available here!
Yeah. A bit too comfy, I guess.
Cheers! Everyone interested is very welcome!
