With warmer, sunnier weather in recent days, the high fells are looking a lot clearer compared to the last couple of weeks. These conditions have also brought out some unusual 'hikers' to the summit of Helvellyn.

Bringing you this beautiful picture of Scale Force this #WowWednesday, the tallest waterfall in the Lake District National Park.

This approximately 170ft tall waterfall was once described by William Wordsworth as 'a fine chasm, with a lofty, though but slender, fall of water'.

After a week full of rain, our Fell Top Assessors have continued hiking up Helvellyn each day to provide you with weather reports and winter walking conditions on the high fells.

Our volunteers, Anna and Jake, then helped our rangers with some tree planting. These trees will help control gorse regeneration and provide more habitat diversity.

Lake District Rangers have been using a 'roboflail', or a robotic lawnmower, to clear gorse. The machine is remote-controlled and helps reduce soil disturbance, while also making quicker progress than cutting and burning by hand with chainsaws.
