How did Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime show tap into a 200-year old tradition of elevating hemisphere over nation in the struggle against imperial rule? Read this fascinating @myhnn.bsky.social piece by @arturochang.bsky.social, author of the forthcoming A New World of Revolutions:
Read @arturochang.bsky.social on the history behind Bad Bunnyβs statement that America, as an identity and a community, need not be confined to the zero-sum politics of nationalism and the nation-state system. www.hnn.us/article/the-...
Thanks so much for sharing, David!
I wrote a short article for @myhnn.bsky.social analyzing the hemispheric histories behind Bad Bunnyβs Super Bowl halftime shown. I show that hemispheric discourses have long been used to combat the politics of empire. Link below!

For decades marginalized communities warned about the militarization of law enforcement too. Is the literal military being deployed on protestors bad? Yes. But the police have tanks, yβall.
cops doing crime on camera. as @chadloder.bsky.social has been pointing out all day, this is totally illegal. cops doing crime. on camera. adjust your stupid headlines accordingly.
Iβd be happy to send you a pdf if you send me your email. Thanks for the interest!
1) Very pleased with this new piece co-authored with @arturochang.bsky.social in @polityalsberuf.bsky.social. In one respect, it's an exercise in the academic esoteric: an essay on a single footnote in Rousseau's Social Contract. But in another respect . . .

Many thanks to the editors @polityalsberuf.bsky.social for their very constructive review and publication process.
In this project we analyze why, how, and through which interlocutors Rousseau might have turned to Tlaxcala as his only relatively contemporary example for a virtuous republic. We also analyze Tlaxcala's anti-imperial politics on its own terms, via primary texts in Tlaxcalan political thought.
Very happy to see this article with @laywilliams.bsky.social out online at @polityalsberuf.bsky.social. Link. below.
