The AI Journalism Awards

Advertising revenue has declined by more than 90% 2000-2020 for newspapers in the US. Similar elsewhere. Papers relying more on subscribers and donations and can't afford enough staff. These uninformed, generalized statements insisting there is no value to journalism are a big part of the problem.

Really the wrong engagement measurement. Beyond important, clicks don't measure whether the reader found it valuable, whether they felt it contributed something to their lives, whether they felt purposeful spending time with it or were just sucked in by some misleading headline.
