What are we going to do about the impending slop paper deluge? I thought @causalinf.bsky.social had some terrifying estimates of just how many papers (and referee requests) are coming

Another classic post-Homan day where around school dismissal time we get a flurry of ICE vehicles all across our neighborhoods. Today one vehicle led an observer to their own home and pointed at it. This is a sick game to them, but we wonβt be intimidated and we wonβt stop until DHS is abolished.
Social Circle is just down the road. Town of 5,000 whose population will more than double. No info to the city officals on how their infrastructure will handle it.
Super Bowl viewers Sunday speculated that 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos appeared in the halftime show. In fact, he has been in hiding with his family.
βHe canβt sleep well at night. He wakes up three or four times a night screaming, βDaddy, Daddy,ββ Liam's father Adrian Conejo Arias, said.
I made a map of 3.4 million Bluesky users - see if you can find yourself!

I've seen some similar projects, but IMO this seems to better capture some of the fine-grained detail
FAMU can't use the word Black on anything posted around campus related to Black History Month, to stay in compliance with Florida state laws against DEI. Black students can't use the word Black at their Historically Black College during Black History Month.
Wrote a little thing about work my class is doing this semester in a historically Black cemetery in town. Yet major map providers don't even show the cemetery space on their maps. Our work is trying to fill that cartographic void. www.communitymappinglab.org/blog/the-abs...

The execution of Alex Pretti is playing so badly because you can look at his actions and life story - his last act was helping, boy scout, athlete, health care worker to veterans - and compare those to the men who killed him and know which you would want to be your son, brother, father, uncle.
Love to see a ratio like that
Teaching DuBois' The Philadelphia Negro next week and just get a kick out of the attitude coming out even in the first footnote.

There are places where Trump, as president, has broad freedom of action. And there are places where Trump, as president, has been able to act unilaterally because the main point of opposition, Congress (and SCOTUS), support his program. (1/?)
We lived in North Minneapolis (the neighborhood where the shooting happened last night) for eight years. 100% this. Tactical actions by law enforcement were a regular occurrence, and I can't remember a time when Black folks were not the targeted individuals.
Secretary of the Interior for the US posts a map titled "The New Interior" showing a line for a flight from DC to Anchorage at 7.5 hours and a DC to Nuuk of 6.5 hours.
US Secretary of the Interior posts prevailing, still current view of US Administration. The propaganda imagery is getting tiring, and yet maps are still popular.
She says ICE agents mocked her: βThe ICE agent who had pepper sprayed into the vents of my car said βyou guys gotta stop obstructing us, thatβs why that lesbian bββ is dead,β verbatim, speaking of Renee Good. Which filled me with absolute rage and shock..."

Which is more likely: stores will completely upend their inventory or will stop accepting SNAP?
a major american city is being forced to close schools because armed government agents are raiding and pepper spraying and terrorizing children and teachers for social media content
This is literally what they do whenever a Black person is killed by police. No matter how solid the evidence is, they will keep pushing that lie, not just to poison the conversation and make sure the killer walks free, but to reassert the political idea that these people deserve to be killed.

At least he's being honest. All about oil.
""The most thrilling moments for us as educators come when we see the glint and sparkle of a student having an illumination: [...]Those moments underline for us that learning is ultimately a process, and one that is predicated on friction and struggle."
Colleague Ben Noll of Capital Weather Gang analysis...Christmas average U.S temperature tomorrow will likely be the warmest by quite a bit....Here, we will be in 70s. But a dramatic cool down again next week.
